I know we can call anytime to request a written statement of our account detailing points status (or at least, I think we can!) Is it routine to send these statements out with any regularity? I would think that once a year during the member use year would seem reasonable, but then again if that's not customary, I'm sure it would just be one more overhead item that would have to be funded via dues. I've been a member <1 year, so I don't know if I should expect a statement without my prompting? Thanks!

No they don't send it out routinely so you do need to request it. Be warned though these reports are not easy to read! Best bet if you ever need to verify the stsaus of your points for any given use year is to call MS and have them go over your points as banked(when they expire) current points and points coming in the next use year which can be borrowed. I have 3 different contracts and keep tracked of them well but every so often I need to check to make sure I have it all right - and go over anything I feel is an error.

Good Luck!

No, DVC/MS does not routinely send out statements detailing our point status. It's up to us to keep track of them.

FWIW, I always ask MS for a verbal "points status" after every call that involves points - whether it be to bank or make a reservation. If I don't agree with what the CM says, it gets straightened out right then and there. Have never had any trouble or disagreements since we bought in 1999.

I've been a member almost 5 years and have never received a statement. As Carol said, I always verify my points balance after every transaction, never had a problem. I only have 1 contract though and have never cancelled a reservation, so it's pretty straight forward.

The points statements are very difficult to read / interpret.

As others have recommended, ask Member Services to tell you, on the phone, what your points status is after each reservation, before you end the call. You should be very specific (e.g. I have 175 BWV points, of which 25 are banked from 2002 and 150 are from 2003). If you are not specific, you might find that they used current year points for a reservation, and left you with banked points that will expire. I know it isn't supposed to happen, but sometimes mistakes get made.

I keep a simple note log that says who I talked to, when, and what they said in terms of balances at my three resort contracts. If I don't think the math checks out, I get it resolved while we are on that same telephone call.

Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of in a fluff due to poor planning on my part. I booked 2 2BR and 1 1BR for 11-15 December day-by-day, so ended up using banked points first, spread like peanut butter across the three - 2004 points next, then a few borrowed points, so the points used on each villa's ressie are a mixed bag. If someone from my family cancels, I am totally hosed up! Oh well, live and learn! Hopefully no one will bail out and leave me hanging - I'm not convinced they understand the value of the "room" they are each getting!

I appreciate the help!

You might be OK even if someone cancels. If that happens (sure hope it doesn't), ask MS to reallocate the points, using the banked and borrowed points for the reservation you are keeping, so that any points that are returned to your account will be current year points. That way, you can bank them, assuming you are within the banking guidelines for your use year.

Best wishes -
