Accommodating Grandparents

I sent you a PM. It is in our case.

Connecting rooms are never guaranteed. Their own web site states that. It is impossible for them to be guaranteed as Disney does not block out rooms as we book them. They have no idea what the inventory of connecting rooms will be when you go to check in. Even paid for room types are not guaranteed. Disney does their best, but nothing is guaranteed.

If you have found a legitimate way to have them guaranteed, you should share, as many would like that info.

How old are the grandparents? I know that my mother's fondest memory was one of seeing my dd's first sight of the Castle. And my dd has wonderful memories of being in WDW that first time, with her Meme!
I would really have them get their own room(s). Both sets.

They are all around 60-65. My InLaws are in amazing health. My mother is legally blind and although she functions well I selfishly feel like I'd be concerned about her the entire time.

Well, I'm 67, so there ya go!!! I'm assuming (knowing what happens when you do that !!) that your dad is going to be there, and able to give your mom a hand? I would think that all the grandparents would prefer to be able to have their own space. But, you know them best.

We did a similar situation for our kids first Disney trip (DS 8, DS 7, DD 5)...my parents came for whole week and my MIL came for last part of week. We did two rooms at WL (1queen, 2 bunks). The 3 kids moved around between rooms and everyone got a "real" bed. I planned a dinner out for my parents (anniversary celebration) at California Grill. I also planned a night out for my husband and his Mom. It was great to swap kids around and get a break now and then. Plus, DD couldn't do RNR coaster since she didn't meet ht requirement, but she met Minnie with my parents while we rode coaster with the boys. Everyone had a magical moment! We planned meals and parks...but this was before FP+. There was flexibility. My parents took time to tour alone.

I would offer the invite. I would suggest two rooms for separation. Plus, it would be easier to drop a reservation if someone can't make the trip. And...don't be afraid to ask for some family time alone if they come the whole week...allow them time alone. You could get them a spa package or golf tee time or a dinner/lunch reservation or something that interests them to guarantee time alone as a family, but w/out having them feel left out!

It is Disney...It is your first trip...It will be magical! Don't overthink it too much or you'll stress out....I am sure your parents just want to experience the reactions by your kids! Mine are dying for my brother and SIL to take their kids (they keep putting it off as other vacation time commitments come up - family weddings for my SIL's family, mostly!) My parents want to have a big family vacation at Disney with their grandkids...who can blame them!

Hmmmm...I may need to get the ball rolling on this....I need a Disney trip!

@DISfirstTimer, you can book a villa like OWK right through Disney with a Disney CM...you don't have to book it through renting DVC points. The con of booking a villa through Disney is it's more expensive, but you have way more flexibility in terms of changing dates, and you get housekeeping every day. If you rent DVC points from a broker, you have no flexibility with dates. Your dates are your dates...period. Plus you don't get daily mousekeeping. I think they empty garbage and replenish towels on the 4th and 7th days? Not sure about which days exactly, but you get the gist.

It may sound silly, but daily mousekeeping is important to me...it's part of what makes a Disney vacation feel like a vacation to me, and I also always like the flexibility of being able to change dates if I need to. Life happens...

Hope this helps! Have a magical time!
