I just found out a man I knew fell down a flight of stairs at WDW yesterday and died this morning after being removed from life support. His bil is a family friend, we bought a house from them 10 yrs ago last month, his wife was my 6th grade English teacher, and his daughter was a yr ahead of me in school and went out with dh a few times before we started dating, so this isn't a "friend of a friend of a friend" kind of story. Apparently, he and his wife, daughters, and grandkids had taken a big family trip to WDW. He fell and hit his head, was airlifted to a hospital, but was brain dead.

I was wondering if anyone who is in the area has heard any details. My mil heard he was at a hotel, but didn't know which one. I'm just curious as to what happened. Right now the family is still in Orlando, and don't know when they will get the body back to MS.

Such as sad thing-horrible memory for the grandkids.

We saw them attending to a man who was on the ground at the bottom of the steps to Cosmic Rays last night at MVMCP. Wonder if that was him? It was so sad, you could tell it was serious.

I wonder if it was him. He would be in his late 60s (his wife is my daddy's age-around 67). I hope to find out more soon.

evenpar4me, he was from Morton (Pulaski if you know where that is), but sold his house to us and they built a huge house around Madison. One of his daughters was married to Chip Miskelly (Miskelly Furniture in Brandon)-don't know if they are still together.

Thanks. I just checked our local paper online (it only prints once a week), but nothing yet. Sometimes they post things mid week. With the family being in Orlando, and everything still so fresh for them, not much info is coming back this way.

Another Central Mississippi gal here.

That is so horrible! I have not heard of this but can't imagine what they're going through. We don't live too far from Morton and about an hour from Madison.
I am very familiar with the Miskelly family and know one of the sons former wives. I should say I know "of her" I don't actually know her.
Please keep us updated as you hear further info.

We are leaving a week from tomorrow and traveling with my parents and Aunt and Uncle as well. I can't imagine having something so horrific happen at such a special place.

She has a very unusual name-Jeri Susan (not sure if that is how she spells it).

I'll definitely post when I know more. If it was outside Cosmic Ray's, I wonder what happened. I was picturing a long fall down a big hotel staircase. Dh said he had knee replacement surgery, so I figured something happened with his leg. Pure speculation-I really don't have much information.

Oh my gosh! Jerri is the one I was talking about. She and I worked next door to one another, during college, we were both in retail.
She and Chip are divorced, they divorced several years ago.
I couldn't recall her maiden name.
How horrific! I can't and don't want to imagine.
We're neighbors practically, we live in Newton County.

Her maiden name is Miles. I don't know if she was there. My mil thought Kera Ann (her sister) was with them and her kids. Regardless, it is awful. Kera Ann was a year older than me-Jerri was older and never really knew her. She was always so pretty.

Miles, that's right. I am so, so sad for their family! I will certainly be praying for them.
There's been lots of sad news out of Jackson today with the JSU student being found and Terry Jenkins death.
It gets a bit close to home when you see a fellow Mississippian dies at a place that's supposed to be for creating happy memories. I'm sure Disney is sad and at a loss for words for this family.
What was the dads first name? I watch the Clarion Ledger for his obit.
:(

That is so sad. I couldn't even imagine losing anyone at Disney World let alone a grandparent. What a truly horrific event I morn for your family and the family of the man.

I think his real name is Jerry (Jeri Susan's name), but he went by Pete.

I hadn't heard that the JSU student was found. I'm off to research that as well. I'm assuming it wasn't a happy ending.

I know, this would have to really mess up those kids.

I just read the artical and saw the news video at www.wftv.com.
But this was a CM a Woman who fell down stairs at AK, she was working on
PE Whirl Roller Coaster. Could there have been 2 accidents with people
falling down stairs at WDW?

I heard about that earlier today. This happened sometime yesterday, and they turned off the life support this morning. I'm hoping my mother will learn something from the bil this weekend. He used to be asst. principal at her school. He called this morning and told the principal that Pete had died (took about 3 breaths on his own off life support and that was it), but that is all we know right now.

I don't know if they know for sure it was the fall that killed him (mil said he fell down stairs, my bil just hear he "fell", and my mother heard he fell down stairs)-could have been something else wrong with him. I just don't know. I don't even know if they were on property-just that they had taken a family trip to WDW.

That is very tragic! Since the OP asked what hospital he would have been taken to, it most likely would have been ORMC (Orlando Regional Medical Center) via helicopter, given the serious nature. It's also possible he was taken to Celebration Hospital, but that's further away.

According to the local news a female cast member working at primevil whirl at AK was on a loading platform where she was not suppodsed to be and was severly injured the other day and passed away today.

I'll try to tune in to the 10 oclock news here and see if anything is said about the accident. I know the MisKelly name, but don't know the family members. That's so sad. I lost my nephew a few weeks before we left last year, but everyone encouraged us to still go. I enjoyed myself, but felt "survivors guilt" several times on the trip. Ya know, what am I doing here having fun when he no longer can? But it just encouraged me to take my DD11 again this year and make as many memories as I can b/c I never know what may happen. I also lost my sister at 15 several years ago, so I encourage everyone not to put off things you want to do.

But to have something tragic happen like that while you are away, in a strange environment, can only be harder.
