I am sure people have asked about this before, but it looks like my new wheelchair will have power assist wheels, which means i need a car with a ramp to get the chair in, or a van or something.

i cannot handle buses for a whole variety of reasons, (sensory problems, social anxiety problems - if people give me a hard time about the buses i will have a breakdown)....

so is there a company people know around there, or do major companies rent cars with ramps? i don't need to be IN the chair when i get it in the car...

or has anyone brought their own SUV/VAN ramp to use?

I don't actually know the answer...but I hate that no one has answered you yet.
Check the FAQ thread above...I think there is a whole section up there on renting vans, cars and any other medical equipment you might need.

I think you will find that it is very easy to rent an accessible vehicle. But it might be a little pricey.

A van with a ramp for $84 a day, $525.00 for a week, and $1000 for 2 weeks. They charge is driven over 100 miles a day.

Try calling companies like Hertz to see what they offer.

Sorry but I thought someone would respond or it was covered in FAQs. I never used the above companies but it is a start.

i am pretty sure that my gf can get the chair in teh car (only about 60-70 lbs total weight) or i just take the wheels off, but i dont understand why rental companies don't just have small portable ramps to rent. doesn't seem difficult!

anyway, thanks so much!

There is information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about renting accessible vehicles (mostly vans). The information is in post #2 after the wheelchair and special needs stroller rental information.
Wheelchair accessible vans are considerably more expensive to rent than regular vans and are probably overkill for what you need. There is also a company listed in the FAQs thread that rents ramps. I know some people have rented a ramp and used it with a regular van.
You might also want to check with the wheelchair company. I know many of the ones with power assist wheels will still fold. I don't know if there is anything that can be removed to make them lighter weight (the power wheels and battery would add weight and maybe make it impossible for you to lift it).
