Accessibilty @ Vero Beach

Looking into a possible purchase of a small number of Vero points through resale.. but would like to know how accessible this resort is.
Do they have beach wheelchairs available? Are ther lots of stairs to the beach?
Stuff like that... any help appreciated!!

As far as I know, they have elevators in the main lodge and in each villa building.

I believe the only things that are not accessible are the beach cottages-I read here that they have a 2br villa that connects to a studio to substitute for the beach cottage.

They have a ramp that goes down to the walk that takes you to the pool.

The pool is not zero entry.

They have a ramp on the boardwalk that goes to the beach but sometimes this is damaged by weather and the stairs are the only option-the staff at Vero are constantly fixing the boardwalk and ramp so I don't think this would present much of a problem.

I believe I saw a water wheelchair last time I was there. You may have to ask for it if this is something you are interested in.

There was once an article in VM about the beach wheelchairs. I assume they are still available but a call to the resort would confirm it for you.

As someone who also has a cute wheelchair-bound child, and one who has been to VB, I can answer most any question you might have, especially since FloridaFam seems to have answered some that I might not be able to speak on. From reading some of your earlier posts, I believe that your Ryleigh and my Caleb have similar capabilities (and even personalities). You may also want to call in the ever-wise Sue from the DISabilities board to opine on this, as her child is older than ours' are.

The ramp to the beach is sometimes out of commission, but that did not present a problem to us at all. We transfered our 6 yr old 45 lb son out of his wheelchair and into a great fat-tire sand wheelchair and had glorious walks on the beach, with the surf crashing around us (big smiles when that happened ). We did have to call ahead to get one of the sand wheelchairs and they guy helped us negotiate the 3 foot drop (caused by a storm the previous month) at the end of the ramp. Most times in the year the ramp is fine (it was fixed by a big sand delivery a few weeks after we were there).

The beach cottages, which I would dearly love to have for a vacation or two, are sadly not accessible as they are on two floors, no ramps, no elevators . But there are elevators in all the other buildings at VB. For us personally, we enjoy the ocean view Inn Rooms, as they are the only guaranteed ocean views, to my knowledge. And that view is breathtaking!

Also, it is not a zero entry pool, which will be a bit more difficult as our DS gets older and heavier. As for now, he loved having daddy take him into the pool in the floaty vest. The freedom from the oppression of gravity was great for him (more big smiles ).

We passed on a possible add-on at VB as we were not sure it would continue to meet our family's needs as DS gets bigger. But for now, we plan on several more years enjoying the splendor that is VB.

Only guaranteed Ocean view rooms at VB are the Inn Ocean View Rooms and Beach Cottages
