Access to antibiotics on the ship?

To answer OP, yes. My daughter got sick in June on the Fantasy. We took her to the ship clinic and they prescribed her Amoxicillin. They had the antibiotic available there as well as OTC Advil and Tylenol. The total fee was 159.24 (144.00 professional fee, 5.00 for the Amoxicillin, 3.06 and 7.18 for the OTC meds).

Hope this helps and hope your little one is better soon!

My DS has had a fever and swollen tonsils since Friday. I took him to the doctor on Monday and she seemed to think it was viral and didn't give him anything. We sail on the Fantasy this Saturday and then have 2 sea days before we go to another port. If he worsens on the ship, is there a doctor and or antibiotics available on the ship?
I didn't read this post to the very end, but I wanted to tell you of our experience. Our daughter contracted cellulitis on our last cruise. We took her to the cruise doc and it was about $150.00 plus about $5.00 per pill for the antibiotic. He prescribed 4 pills and then asked us to come back the next day. It was $49.00 for that visit and he prescribed 15 more pills ($75 more). Asked us to come back the next day again for a check ($49) and told us that she was on the mend.

Just be prepared for it to be $$. If you have travel insurance, great. We always get insurance and somehow this trip it slipped by us and I didn't notice that we didn't sign up for it. Stink!

Did they charge you $5.00 total for the Amoxicillin? They charged us $5.00 per pill.

Amoxicillin is dirt cheap and the ship carries a generic. They do charge very reasonable prices for their drugs though. $5 per pill is very strange!

Thanks all for the info, concern and well wishes. They had taken a throat swab when we were there on Monday and today it came back positive. He's now on antibiotics (they even found us one that doesn't need to be refrigerated so it's easier to travel) so should be feeling much better (and won't be contagious) by the time we leave. :)

So glad to hear. He should be much better by the time your sail.

I'm wondering if it was amoxicillin/clavulanate that that the previous poster really received (since it was to treat cellulitis). It costs more than plain amox, but $5 per pill still seems pretty steep (unless for some reason they are dispensing brand name Augmentin).

Yes, I have the bill/receipt right here and it was 5.00 total. She received a bottle of Amoxicillin suspension as she is only 6 and can't swallow pills yet.

I just thought it was expensive because it was on the ship. I didn't even question it. I just pulled out my bills and it was $17 and change for 4 pills and $65 and change for 15 pills.

I know we all hate for our kids to be sick, but I rejoice when the swab comes back positive because that means there is a quick fix and you're good to go in 24 hours. Hooray for you all!

When I pulled out the bill I checked that as well. You are correct that it was Augmentin. We had no experience with cellulitis and had no idea (until we got home) that it was so serious. She had to spend 24 hour with her foot elevated. Our stateroom host was amazing through the whole thing. The doc said to elevate her foot on some life jackets. Our stateroom host found that completely unacceptable and chased down a wedge shaped pillow for her. We've had mostly wonderful stateroom hosts, but Raymond was absolutely the best we've ever had.
