Access America Trip insurance from AAA?

I called AAA to find out about trip insurance and discovered that they now use Access America. The price was decent and I am waiting for them to fax me some information.

Has anyone used this insurance before?

I think this is what I am going to go with.
 
my husband called AAA yesterday and was told that you have to book a cruise through them in order to use their insurance. Did they mention that to you as well or did we get some incorrect information from them?

No I was not told that. They gave me a phone number to call that seemed to lead me directly to Access America.
 
I booked a 7 day Disney Cruise and 6 night DisneyWorld package with AAA in 2001. Access America was the insurance that AAA offered.

On the 2nd day at DisneyWorld my wife hurt her neck on a ride. She spent the rest of the vacation at DisneyWorld in bed.

Access America paid all of the medical bills except the portion that our primary insurance coverd (about $900 of $3,000) They also gave us a full refund for the DisneyWorld portion of our trip (over $2200) I was very pleased with Access America!!!!!
 

I think there are 2 separate issues here -- if you book a trip with AAA vs. buying the insurance alone. Since AAA offers so many services, including insurance, it is possible that the rep at the AAA office who told you that you have to book the cruise with them to use their insurance is right to an extent, but if you call or ask to speak to someone else, you will find that they will "broker" the insurance as well.

FYI -- Access America is good, so is TravelGuard. We used the latter once, it covered everything we needed.
 
I just called the Access America phone number I was given and spoke to a rep. She told me that I don't have to have booked my cruise through AAA to use their insurance. (Used Dreams Unlimited.)

What I will tell you, however, is that if you are a AAA member they will give you a special code to use when you call Access America. So if you belong to AAA call them first and then Access America.
 
Hi Beth!

63 days and counting!!! Just wanted to let you know that in Feb 2001 we cruised and used Travel Guard. First day of trip - at the Boardwalk, DH cut finger with knife (needed 7 stitches) and travel guard paid for everything within 2 weeks of submitting bill with no questions asked. We will definitely use them again for Sept.

P.S. By the way, if you ever get hurt in a Disney Hotel (by your own fault) there are no Doctors on call. It is your responsibility to get to the hospital. Nice Cast Member told us to get to a park (we were going to Magic Kingdom anyway) once you are in the park it is their responsibility to transport you to and from the hospital. We went into MK, went to the first aid station near the Crystal Palace and they took my DH in a blazer (through all the back parking lots - he thought that was cool!) and told me he would be back in 2.5 hours. To the minute, he was back - all fixed up and ready to go. Unfortunately, he couldn't swim very well during the cruise, but things could have been worse!

If I am reading this correctly, Access America is NOT the one supplied by Disney but a separate insurance.

Is there a problem with the Disney Insurance plan or is this just a all around better, more inclusive deal?

And I totally agree with Laruen, "let's just hope we are paying money for nothing!" Our last cruise made us just a teensy nervous because our luggage wasn't delivered until nearly 8 PM! I had already started reading the insurance brochure!!!

I'm looking at my Disney Cruise Vacation Protection Plan booklet right now and it says in smaller letter down on the lower right corner of the cover "Services provide by AccessAmerica a division of World Access Service Corporation."

I knew I saw that somewhere. :D
 
While DCL's insurance may be provided by Access America, what I am talking about it buying my own separately from the stuff that Disney offers.
 
Meant to answer Rae's question as to whether or not AccessAmerica was the insurance provider for DCL.

Guess I was not clear. I have not clue as to what the differences are between what they provide for DCL or otherwise. I only know what I read on the DCL insurance booklet cover. I don't have a clue to anything else and hope I did not give anyone the impression I did.
 
Hi Paulmc80! I'm sorry if I came off snippy. I've been debating what type of insurance to get for my trip. Been beating my head against a wall with all the decisions I have to make.

I was just trying to explain (perhaps poorly) that the insurance I was purchasing was not Disney's own. Pretty cool though that Access America supplies Disney's.

Once again, many thanks to all the posters - I called AAA and changed from Disney provided insurance to Access America and saved $54! Not much compared to the cost of the cruise but every little bit helps!!!
 
What I found out when booking our trip for 2003, is that AAA travel insurance costs $120.00 (for our family of four) more than Disney's travel insurance! I asked our AAA travel agent to please find out how the plans differ from eachother. I'm still waiting for an answer! As soon as I find out, I'll post her reply.
 
As I understand it, the two policies are underwritten by the same company so I suspect they will be very close in small print. The difference is how they are priced:

Access America prices their policies based on the cost of the cruise per individual (for example my daughter and I are paying $1100 per person and the Access America cost for $1000- $1500 is $52). Disney prices are based on the length of the cruise and number of people in the party.

Consequently, I am sure that some people do well with one pricing system over another depending on the prices of their cruise per person.

Beth, I'm also getting tired of making decisions! I keep thinking that there's something I don't know that would help me make a better decision or be less expensive.

Anytime I see travel information on TV they recommend buying 3rd party travel insurance rather than from the company you will be traveling with, in this case Disney. I think the only advantage would be if the company you are traveling with goes bankrupt, you're not relying on them to reimburse you. I am not concerned about Disney but will do what the professional recommend and purchase third party travel insurance. My dad is 78yo and I need the trip cancelation insurance.

By the way, Access America is the one I've priced and will probably buy.
 
I recently seperated my land/sea and added 3x nights.My question is that before I was covered for the 7days of the land/sea trip. Now I am only covered for my sea portion. Can you purchase extra ins. for the 6night land portion? Please help?
