Acceptance rate?

Are there any statistics about the acceptance rate for the CP? I'm considering Spring '09, but with a family to plan around, need more than a few weeks to pull everything together for it. I'd hate to have a place ready to live and life planned only to NOT be accepted to the program. We DISers love our planning...

If it matters, I'm 43, have a BA in English, working on my Master's in management, and am a Disney fan through and through (and have a full time CM DD and a seasonal part time DD...)

Well I don't know much about statistics but I work as a campus rep and what I've been seeing in the past couple of semesters is that we've been filling up pretty quick. Last semester, I think we reached capacity early December if not late November... I re-applied this semester and because I applied so late I wasn't even offered a role! thats crazy because I'm an alumni and usually alum get to come back pretty easily.

I will say that the CP doesn't allow you to live off site. so you could arrange a place for your family to live but you would still have to live in the apartments. I've heard only one story about a friend who attempted to live off site and it didn't turn out very well and ended up leaving the program.

But if you still would like to apply, here are some tips... if you want a better chance of getting a role you want do the online presentation when it first sets up (for the spring semester I believe the e-pres is available the beginning of September). I mean, there is a chance you could still get the role you want if ...say like for SP 09-- if you applied Oct. you could still possibly get a great role depending on your major, personality, interview... But I've always seen and heard that the people who don't wait for their on campus presentation and do the online one as early in the season as possible get great roles.

And if you do it that way in September then you have the October, Nov, and Dec months to set up a place for your family to live.

ps -- I don't know a lot about the Professional internships but you could possibly just go straight in to one of those depending on your field of study... there are few positions like that but its worth a shot!

That's odd...I've heard from several sources that an adult w/ a family wouldn't have to live in the apartments. Is there someone I could contact directly to give me a certain answer?

Contact the College Program directly for an answer to that question =).

there may be some special cases but I haven't heard anything about Housing ever letting someone live off site for the CP. I've always known them to be pretty strict but I could be wrong because a lot has changed since I've been in 06. Here is some contact info...

I'll contact them as well because I work promoting the DCP at a community college and my big thing is that I cant sell to the parents about the program because my understanding was that they couldn't move with their families =/ hopefully what you've heard is true! that'd be good news!!

I did contact them and was told I could submit a request for their committee to approve. That's quite a relief! I'm planning to book our January plans and if it doesn't pan out, maybe hubby and I will just go and apply for seasonal part time for the month (we're both self-employed)

I work with the college program at my school and this is the first year we have had students interview that were not accepted into the program. Apply early!

I don't know of a number. But acceptance rates are pretty good. I applied for 3 programs, and got accepted for each one. One tip is the sooner you apply, the better your chances.

Yes, you can stay elsewhere while on the CP. I know a few people who have done so.

Well this time around, we have about 7000 CPs. That's apparently ALOT.

The best advice is to APPLY EARLY. They're also building another complex right behind Chatham so they may take more then they did this time after its finished but I'm not sure.

I just want to give you kudos for doing this! I am 35 and want to apply for Fall Advantage 2009 (when I am a senior). I know I'll be a mama hen (age-wise) out there, but I really want to do this too! Besides, I don't consider myself too old. . .I'm young at heart! I think it will be a blast.

My question is....Am I applying too late or early?! I dont know what my chances r getting accepted taking in account the time when i applied. I figured i did it at the right time because I did it b4 our on campus presentation.

That's not too late. My school's presentations are not til March 5th (and other NJ presentations are late March/early April). Don't worry, that should be fine.

One other thing... for the past few months or so i have heard only great things about the program but i have read on some other online blogs and from a few friends who did it and said they hated the program. I was hearing things like some of the college students would just get drunk everynight, some students were mesierabel with their jobs or being in the heat, and that Disney treats their lower level employees like crap! Is any of this true because i would hate to commit to the internship for a whole semester and be unhappy.

"Life's what you make it, so let's make it rock". Sorry if you're not a Hannah Montana fan, but that's become a mantra at my house! While I can't personally say b/c I haven't done the CP yet, both of my older DDs have and they encountered CP mates who were miserable. It all had to do with their own attitudes, however. Yes, you are low man on the totem pole. Yes, you may have some older, regular full time CMs be less than magical to you. Yes, you almost certainly will have GUESTS be unmagical to you. The question becomes how you respond. I met both DDs managers (needed to make sure my "babies" were in good hands ). The oldest one's manager was awesome. Younger, had done the CP himself, very much a mother hen and excellent mentor. He made some decisions that didn't make my DD happy, but were the best thing for her at the time (and paid off in the long run). The other one's manager was a bit older, more formal, but still very good and just what she needed as well. It really is a sociological microcosm and you have to learn to get along with all kinds of people that you may or may not like, some of them sleeping right across the room.

Actually they do. Disney accepts people of all ages into the CP.
