Im sooo happy i got into the cp program for Fall 2007. My only problem is i got the one thing i really hoped i wouldnt...Quick service food and beverage.
Has anyone called their recriter and asked to be switched to something else? Would it look bad and they decide not to accept you? What do i do? Im leaving a restaurant job from here that Ive been at for 4 years and really done want to be doing that at Disney. What do you guys think?

Did you put that down as one of your choices? I only ask this because if you did they most likely would have put you there. It is one of the most-needed roles.

Yeah...my recruiter sweet talked me into adding Quick Service F&B unto my checklist...

But you know what? You get payed a little extra, AND she said that it is way different than a Wendy's or McD's because of the Disney Difference. Also, you have the chance to meet a lot of executives (her words)...even more so than you sould in other roles. She is the H&R manager right now, and spent a few years teaching the orientation classes, so I'm trusting her on that. I made it clear that Quick Service was my LAST choice though.

However, it is Disney...so it can't be all bad....If it was me, I would still take it.

They ask everyone. And if you look at the Role checklist, what you check isn't ordered as preferences. A check for a job that you aren't sure you want is weighted just the same as a check for a job that you really want.

So if they ask you about doing quick service, like they do everyone, and you check it even if you really don't want it, then that is opening yourself up to that possibility. Even if you say "it is my last choice", that possibility is still there and what you consider to be your last choice looks to them just like whatever your first choice is.

to eliminate that possibility, say "no" and don't check it. That way if you for whatever reason get that role, you have a little more leverage in getting it changed. You can say that you said no and that you didn't check it. They can pull up your role checklist and look and see. If it isn't checjed, then they can't doubt you in saying that you didn't want that role.

it is really unfair that they ask the "are you open to quick service" question because a lot of people think that if they say "no" that they will automatically not get a job onb the program. I guess it would depend on who is doing the interview and how they ask, but a lot of people say that they felt pressured.

but what I'm getting at is - don't say that you are open to any job that you aren't. never say anything that you think the person on the other end of the line wants to hear. Be honest and in the long run, you will be happier with the outcome.

They even say to be honest in their interview tips under "prepare"

When it came down for the Quick Service question, I said no right away and she asked me why, I told her that I wasn't interested in working with food, It's just not something I see myself happy with.

On my cover letter (for my fax) and on the checklist itself, I put that Quick Service was my last choice and Merchandise is my first. Since that is put on the paper and the checklist, I am hoping they get the hint. Also, I have worked at Kohl's for quite some time which she noticed, so hopefully that will pull me through to Merchandise.

If it all comes down, and I get my letter with Quick Service...is it allright to call and request a change?

You could try, but there is no guarantee they would. In fact, I would have to say they probably would not. Even down in Disney it is really hard to switch roles (except for extending).

Basically, if you said you would do it, Disney is willing to put you in that position. I say do what you need to do, but no matter what, it's a great experience to have and you'll learn something from it.

OT, I see you did custodial last summer. I'm doing it this summer, and how is it? What is it like?

I agree! Sure, Quick Service F&B isn't my first choice, but "do what you need to do". My goal is to make Disney a career, so most careers start with some runt work. If I have to, I'll do it!

But, I think the positives outweigh the bad...come on, it's Disney! WHOO HOO!

Hey, this is a good time to plug my "Trip Report." It's in my signature and it's all about my summer doing the WDWCP as a custodial.

I had a friend who did QSFB last year, and like everyone else, she was nervous about it at first. She actually ended up really loving it though...I think she worked in one of the countries at Epcot. So...maybe things will work out!

Yup, its simply the flip of a coin. I know some CPs that had awesome QSFB jobs, and some that if given to me, I probably would have quit. Its all luck.
