accents

I like a lot of accents. Can't say I really hate any, but some I certainly like more than others. British, French, Indian, Spanish, Southern...all cool. Boston accents would have to be my least favorite. I don't know why. And as to your question, do I have an accent. I'm from Westchester. No one who lives here thinks we have an accent, but people from elsewhere claim we do. :confused3

No accent.
I mean, you might be able to tell the difference if I went to the States, but really you'd only notice because of my choice of words.

I LOVE:
Japanese
Aussie
Spanish (only if they're deep Spanish, whiney spanish is gross)
French (Quebequois = love. Because they talk a bit slower)
Jamaican

I DO NOT PARTICULARLY LIKE:
English. I mean, sometimes it's okay. But on women, I find it pesky & annoying. On men, it depends on the accent. If it's deep & rich, I love it. But if it's that weird accent that Sammy on Rock School II has. Drives me nuts.
Chinese (drives me absolutely crazy)

I have a southern accent
I LOVE Bristish and Irish accents
I do not like northern, far eastern, and arabic accents

I have a midwestern accent - like michigan or minnesota type.

don't dislike any.

Favorites:
BRITISH
Australian
Italian

Dislikes:
Boston. ughhh it's annoying. ((no offense to any one who has one!)
Really think New York/Brooklyn accents

My accent:
Jersey! :) I say 'wutter' instead of water.

And I can do a slight British accent, a New York one, and sometimes a Southern one as well. :)

i mean i live in the north so the south has an accent to us, but to them their talk sounds just fine, but to them, it sounds like the east and we speak differently.
I can hear my accent when I'm speaking.

My boyfriend is from Michigan, and doesn't particularly have an "accent" persay, but his word choice is much different than mine. He does have a slight twang every now and again, depending on words, but he typically speaks slower and clearer than I do(which is a good thing)

so not everyone has an accent. :)

what is a British Accent?
I live in England and I have a scouse accent ( I live in Liverpool) I often get asked if Im Irish when I'm in the states !?!?!?!
I love ALL accents, I just find it hard to understand some.
What I dont particularly like is people from another country saying I dont speak English ?!?!?!
I think its amazing that there are so many different accents and dialects.

Elaine ~ I have to agree with you. There is no real British Accent over here. OK, we have different sets of words that are different to American words, but we all talk differently. There are so many different Accents in Britian that it is so hard to explain each one. For example, you have Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Scouse, Southern Liverpooleon, Essex, Posh, Queen's English etc etc..

I have an Essex accent, although sometimes I do sound a bit posh but that is due to my love of big words (to which some I don't really know the meaning of). I like Irish Accents since they are rather fun, although there are some Irish people who aren't understood that well by other parts of England to which I get most of the time. Scottish Accents are cool too, but the same principle can apply. Welsh Accents are nice, although my only experience with them is from TV so I don't really know the full picture.

I like American Accents too, although I can't really say there is one. Texas, Missouri and N.W. American accents are my favorite although A) The first 2 can lead to stereotypes, B) My only experience is again from TV and C) If I spend too much time with people with any american accents my home accent begins to look weird!

In any case, you can't really say that everyone talks the same. For example, people in Cork which is Southern Ireland if my Geography is correct would talk different to people in Dublin. You really need to be there to get the full picture. :)

Any particular favorites? British, Australian, Texan, Jersey, and Boston/NYC

Any you dislike? No, not really

Do you have an accent? Yeah, an American one.

then what defines an accent?

well I define an accent as having a slightly different dialect than what is considered "proper" speech. Some people just don't have that. My uncle speaks slowly, clearly, and enunciates. He has absolutly no accent at all. (he's from Washington)

any particular favorites?
British and New York

any you dislike?
nope

do you have an accent?
sadly, no.
I LOVE any kind of accent because i lack one

My accent: Venezuelan; obviously spanish...

I like: French, German, and Portugese

Dislike: British, Southern [just a little...]

so. accents.

any particular favorites?
southern and british accents of course
any you dislike?
im not a big fan of northern accents it just makes me twitch
do you have an accent?
i have the biggest southern accent ever i say it all yall, howdy, yeehaw you name it i say it.

I forgot Newfie accents.
If you don't listen well, you won't understand what they're saying. It's kind of a homey accent that I love. If you listen INTENTLY you realize it's the worst spoken english ever. It's just how they speak, I don't they write like that. But I did read a book that was written completely in a Newfie accent (I puts me arm around the dog)

If I travel to like, Florida or California, people say I have a Boston accent, but compared to people here, it's not at all. haha. But I like mostly all accents. German, Italian, African, Scottish, Australian..you name it. My favorites are really distinct Irish. The only one I CANNOT stand to hear is Staten Island. It is so annoying!! On MTV's "True Life: I'm A Staten Island girl" I just could not stand to listen to those girls!

I LOVE British accents! I swear, anything that sounds like you came from England, Scotland, or Ireland sends me into ridiculous giggles. I love it! Australian and New Zealand accents are cool, too.

I don't really dislike any accents.

I have a Southern accent that I can't detect myself, but sounds pretty thick on video tapes and stuff like that. Although I have been told that I can fake an English accent pretty well; I've had practice. ;)

they make me cringe
the proper welshy accents just sound so common. i can't stand them

I have a very slight southern accent

I love: South African, British, Italian and Australian
The ones I hate: I really don’t hate any accents but I wish I had a stronger accent
