Accelerating into April 2026 Exercise Thread

Morning all,

Some great colour changes over the past few days: ShannyMcB, sophy1996, Twilight Sparkle, Alicatt and the entire Team as a whole have made it to blue, and I (clappyclaps) have pushed through into orange - congrats everyone!

It seems only fitting to follow on from Test Track with, of course, Radiator Springs Racers:

Radiator_Springs_Racers_at_Cars_Land.jpg

Despite the final race being very similar to Test Track's speed trial, RSR only manages a top speed of 40mph (64km/h) - a massive 24mph slower. Does anyone else think it seems faster than that?!

Unsurprisingly considering its similarity to TT, RSR uses a third generation version of the same transport technology used in TT, right down to the 6 seats. The ride cost over $200 million and is the most expensive ride at Disneyland, accounting for around 18% of the entire $1.1 billion cost for the DCA expansion. The attraction was first announced in 2007 and officially opened in June 2012, with wait times of up to 6 hours!

The ride is randomly programmed to select a different winner each race so you have a 50/50 chance of being in the winning car. The steepest banking angle on the track is 45 degrees. Each vehicle on the track is estimated to do more than 36000 miles a year, which is equivalent to doing more than 14 trips down the original Route 66.

Did you know that the peaks of the mountain range (pictured above), represent classic Cadillac tail fins from 1957 to 1962?

Any thoughts on RSR? Love it, hate it, never been on it? I personally really love this ride, prefer it over TT, although I wonder how much more fun it would be if it got up to TT speeds??🤔

I'll leave you with a ride POV video as usual and also one of my photos from my trip last March (front left - don't I look thrilled? 😂):

Absolutely the best gym day today! Had more energy than I've had in ages, so I did a 60 minute run, then caught the tail end of a class for a 15 minute yoga session. The run went so well I'm daydreaming about Run Disney events again. :P

Since you mentioned Tower of Terror - did you know there used to be a 10 mile race back in 2012? I've got the shirt from that run, but I didn't actually complete it. It was dangerously hot, and medical pulled me from the course. : I live in hope that it'll return, such a fun course through DHS, and run at night!

Catching up on posting my minutes after a busy weekend:

Fri-4/3 - 26
Sat-4/4 - 34
Sun-4/5 - 20
Mon-4/6 - 25

130 new minutes

I enjoy both Tower of Terror and Test Track, but haven't been on Radiator Springs Racers.

We have a hotel bell souvenir from ToT - kids who visit us always love to ring it.

Another great gym day! The secret might be... I doubled my pre-workout caffeine. 🤣😂🤣

No But Seriously, I generally only allow myself a tiny bit of caffeine each day, but today I doubled it to... almost 2/3 of a cup of coffee! And got 68 really great minutes in.

I genuinely couldn't function on so little coffee, don't know how you do it! 😂

+138 for walks over the past few days. The weather has been glorious which is good, although been too busy at work to enjoy it too much, including my first job interview in 9 years 🤐

Total = 651/1800

Evening all,

We're now just over a week into the month and got some more colour changes - congrats to Raya and WDW_fan_in_TX for reaching blue, and PollyannaMom for hitting orange!

Next up on our exploration into acceleration is another of my favourite rides, Expedition Everest:

Expedition-Everest_Full_38031.jpg

Believe it or not, EE is one of the fastest rides at the Disney parks although from the outside it might not look it! It hits a top speed of 50mph (80km/h) and [spoiler alert for those that haven't been on it], the backwards section manages a surprisingly high 40mph (64km/h). The backwards section also manages an impressive 3Gs.

At 199.5 feet, EE is the tallest Disney attraction, beating Tower of Terror by 6 inches. Originally announced in 2003, it took 3 years for EE to be built, eventually opening in April 2006. Until 2019 when it was succeeded by Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, EE was in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive rollercoaster in the world, with its total cost estimated to be around $100 million. When built, it also happened to be Disney's 18th mountain themed attraction - knew there was a lot but not that many!

Despite the name of the attraction, the mountain in the ride is not actually Everest. The mountain is infact the fictional forbidden mountain featured in the ride story, with Everest itself represented by the barren peak on the right, with forced perception intimating that it is far in the background.

One of the highlights of the ride is the animatronic Yeti, which has not actually moved since around a year after the ride opened, with special effects used instead to give it the illusion of movement. There are a lot of rumours around why this hasn't been fixed, including claims it is too difficult, would involve lengthy ride closures or that Disney just doesn't want to spend the money. Either way, the Yeti has now earned the unofficial nickname of "Disco Yeti" due to the strobe effects used. Originally the ride also featured a mist effect after first opening to give a more mountainous feel, however this was scrapped as it created rusting problems.

As always, I'll leave you with a front row ride POV video and one of my horrendous photos from my last trip - front (I'm adamant I'll get better ones on my upcoming trip... 🤞)

Anyone else a fan of Everest? Or has anyone yet to brave it? That backwards bit thrills me every time as it always feels more extreme and intense than you'd think!
