Acadmey Awards to choose 10 finalists instead of 5!

What do you think? Personally, I say go for it! For the last several years, the choices for best film have sucked out loud. I'd love to see more variety and more choices even if I don't agree with the winner.

Some years, it is hard to pick even 5 movies worth being nominated.

they can pick 100 movies ,it doesnt matter theres only 1 winner and its usually the most boring one. i hope they dont do it for the other categories too-(actor/actress.etc.) those awards shows are too long now.

That is what I don't get, if they choose 10 movies, then wouldn't it have to correspond with the other main Categories, such as Director, Screenplay, Actor, Actress, and the Supporting Cast as well?

My thinking however is that maybe it will open up for maybe a comedy or even an action film that might otherwise be overlooked ie The Dark Knight, not saying it would have won BUT it was worthy of a nomination IMO.

Maybe now Hollywood might start making better movies too.

Probably trying to stimulate people to go watch movies by putting 10 on the list instead of 5. Think of it--most people will watch 3 of the 5 nomiated movies.

All I can say is, if "Up" doesn't get a Best Picture nomination out of this, I want to see a horde of balloon-wielding fans descend upon Hollywood in protest.

The past two years, the Pixar film of the year (Wall-E last year, Ratatouille the year before) has been named by Rotten Tomatoes as the best-reviewed wide-release film of the year, and second-best-reviewed overall, has won the Animated Feature category, and has garnered at least some talk (quite a bit for Wall-E, as I recall) of getting a Best Picture nomination. Now is the time, this is the year: Up for Best Picture!

Don't a lot of people complain about how long they last. Won't this just make them that much more long.
