Has anyone been to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in LA? We are flying into LAX for our Disney trip and want something to do up in LA for our arrival day. We live in OK now but spent 40 yrs in Southern California so we have seen and done most of the standard tourist options. This opened last fall and thought it might be interesting for a few hours. Just looking for first-hand experiences. Was it worth the time and $25 per person?

I went just a month ago and it was fantastic. My best friend and I are big movie buffs (I even have a degree in Film), so it was perfect for us. If you have any interest in filmmaking or film history or just want to see some cool costumes and props and displays, it's absolutely worth every penny. They did an incredible job on it.

Haven't been there personally yet but I have heard good reports about the new Academy Museum. I believe it is worth the price of entry, from what I can gather.

Thanks so much for the feedback! Sounds like a must-do for us.

We like it so much that we bought a membership on our second visit! They did a fantastic job showcasing the history of film and made a special effort to recognize marginalized groups, as well.

Definitely book in advance, because it sells out, especially for the weekends. Review the COVID procedures (vaccination or negative test mandatory), and plan for about 2.5-3 hours if you take your time. I recommend starting by enjoying the views from Dolby terrace on the top (4th floor, I believe), then working your way down from there. Also, the food at Fanny’s, the farm-to-table museum cafe, is delicious!

If you’re bringing kids, I’d recommend teens and above. There is very little there for younger children, apart from the Miyazaki exhibit and the Toy Story Zoetrope, and some of the films show explicit content. Enjoy!
