AC at Disney

Disney is probably trying to save $$$$$$$ by turning the a/c down.

I'm curious which stores you guys/gals felt were warmer. We aren't huge shopping people, but we were in World of Disney several times, and many of the other shops in the 4 parks. The only time we ever felt warm was in the World of Disney, and that was just one time. It was an incredibly hot and humid day and a t-storm was rolling through. Therefore, the store was packed with people, which makes it warm inside no matter how much they blast the a/c. I always feel bad for the CMs working in the pin store in Disney Springs. It has no a/c and is hot. Same with the CMs working Tomorrowland Speedway.

The Seas gift shop in Epcot always seems to be unbearably hot.

Sounds like they've turned down the A/C (as in, it isn't as cold as previously), I'd guess to save money? But there's also such a wide variation in what people find comfortable. I've always been freezing in the shops and especially on the buses. We have to carry enough as it is, so I don't bother with a sweater and just tough it out. On the other hand, my dad and brother would happily have the A/C set to 0° (or lower). I guess when it comes down to it, people like me can always carry a sweater, go back outside, etc, but those who like it cooler can't do much to get comfortable, so I'd rather they leave it colder.

I was just there last week and everything felt ice cold. To the point i was freezing in gift shops and in indoor line rides. But I don't have AC at home, so any AC felt amazing. And the buses are another story. Too cold too cold WAY TOO COLD.

We are here now, and I don't feel like the shops are very hot, but they aren't the coolest. Our room at Port Orleans Riverside however is AMAZING! As for the rides, it's hit or miss to if I feel like they are very hot or not.

We visited for 2 days in mid June and didn't have an issue with the a/c. Stayed plenty cool while indoors at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Shops, restaurants, rides, everything seemed anywhere from adequately cool to quite cold. Never felt too warm indoors.

We were just there for a week, when the heat index every day was 104-109!!! We all said that the rides, like haunted mansion and small world were way too warm inside. In haunted mansion, in the stretching room, you. could feel the heat from every person in that room. That was gross! Never felt anything like that before at Disney, and we go all the time in the summer.....

Turning the ac up 5-10 degrees can save a lot of money. Feels cool to some and is fine. However if you've been to Disney in the past, and have also been to universal.....gone are the days of 65-68 chilling stores and rides......

I hope they've turned the AC down some, I don't have a lot of "insulation". I can exit the shops but I'm shivering and my teeth are chattering by the time the buses reach their destinations or by the time we're through a table service dinner.

I know I still freeze indoors at Disney and DH is still comfortable. So in our opinion, there is no change at all. Neither of us have ever walked in from outside (when it's hot) and not felt instant relief indoors. For the record, our last trip was 6/18 to 22, so not very long ago. Indoors still felt more than a lot cooler than outside

Good!

...But there's also such a wide variation in what people find comfortable...

I don't think anyone should travel to Central Florida in the summertime and expect Disney to keep the thermostats in the 60's.

But ultimately, as noted by you and others, it's all relative and a lot has to do with what people are acclimated to. But people will become more acclimated to the local temps if they aren't walking from 68° to 100° and back again repeatedly (it may cut down on spreading summer colds as well).

We always go around Labor Day at peak humidity and near peak temps, but haven't been in 3 years. Even if there is a change, I don't think we'll be able to remember enough of 2013 to compare and contrast.

I remember a couple of years ago we were noticing the differences in the stores...especially at AK one day. Really didn't see a difference last year. However, back during the "recession" when Disney offered a plethora of promotions and gave free dining to everyone but their own employees, we REALLY noticed the difference in A/C. My wife and I commented that it might have been a cost-cutting measure....but since we go in August anyway, there's almost no escaping the heat.

As a Connecticut resident, I believe that it's easier to get out of the heat than out of the cold. The cold is brutal and stays in your bones....that's why when I go to Disney, I just remember those 28 degree F days and stop complaining! :-)

I didn't find any area to be too warm last week. Some were freezing, especially TS restaurants. Every indoor area was comfortable and a relief from the "feels like 107" temps we experienced.

I have always had to carry sweatshirts for my daughters in our backpack because they have historically been very cold when we sit down to dine, and last week was no exception to this.

There wasn't a single instance where I was in a store, queue, restaurant or other indoor area where I thought "wow, it's really warm in here" or "shoot, it's too hot for me to shop, I need to get back out into the 100 degree heat."

IMO, I think people need to stop trying so hard to find things to complain about.

Friends don't let friends go to Disney in the summer.
Quit fearmongering. We love Disney in the summer. You just have to know how to manage heat. So sick of hearing people say it's a terrible time to go.

It's a great time to go. Great deluxe resort rates & discounts, fewer rides are being refurbished, both water parks are open, you can really enjoy your resort pool, evening EMH are pleasantly warm, you can pack light, etc.

Agreed. I think a lot is about some people's expectations that indoor areas should always be freezing in summer. I hate freezing interiors. A lot of it has to do with body chemistry. If a person is very overweight, they'll be more likely to get hot easily and need more help to cool down. Vice versa for a very thin person. Hot flashes and thyroid issues play into it, too. Bottom line, one person's "not cold enough" is another person's "thank goodness it's not like a freezer in here".

Amen! We now live near Atlanta, but I spent the first 42 years of my life outside of Philly. We left after the winter of 2013-2014. I distinctly remember standing outside at the bus stop with my kids...on crutches no less (I had recently had hip surgery). It was -3F with wind chills of -15F or worse. There was 18+" of snow on the ground and drift areas...we lived out in the countryside...were 5' or more. It was then that we made the decision to leave the area and head for somewhere warmer. While I very much miss home at times, I do not miss winter.

Accident, while Disney is definitely out to make money, I just can't see a conspiracy where they're trying to make the stores warm so you buy ice cream and drinks. Just from a sheer liability perspective, I can't see that happening.

I thought it was just me! We were there for 4 days before a cruise and 1 day after a cruise. Before the cruise (June 14-18) everything felt very warm to me. I thought I was losing my mind! I mentioned it to my DD and she said it did feel warm to her, too. The rides that really stick out to me are HM, IASW, PoTC, and the People Mover. HM I was actually sweating the entire ride - and that is one of my favorites to cool off in. And the People Mover I like the indoor parts because it cools you off just enough to relax (IMO). I honestly think everything was quite a bit warmer than usual. I like going into rides, restaurants, and shops and getting goose-bump cold, I never felt that cold this trip. Then after the cruise, we went back to MK and it felt a little cooler on some of the rides, but not all of them. And it still wasn't bone-chilling cold.

I think it's also combined with trying to get people to spend more on beverages and ice cream.

I don't think Disney needs to crank up the thermostat to sell more cold drinks, ice cream (or cooling towels) in the summer time. The weather will do that for them. And they offer free ice water at every CS location. As much as you want. I recall a rant post on another forum that insinuated the same ulterior motive. But in the same post it talked of sitting at a table in front of a whole tray of ice water and seeing other guests with the same multiple glasses of ice water. If Disney really wanted to up their cold beverage profits, that ice water would have disappeared faster than Olaf on the 4th of July.

Exactly- how much money does Universal waste blasting the air con full blast all day?? It may feel nice but it's not efficient.
