Absolutely unacceptable

What? Do you have a problem with someone comparing apples and chainsaws?
I fear it's not just a red herring, but a strategized distraction to keep our attention occupied while the DRA (Dolphin Resistance Army) weaponizes itself.

The monorail is not scheduled for maintenance/refurb. It is closed from 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM daily during the month of March to accommodate DVC construction near the monorail track at the Grand Floridian.
Originally? Yes. BUT... as I've stated multiple times already, the monorail has been having severe issues for the past several years.....being stuck on the 'highway in the sky' is no fun, believe me...been there, done that more times than I care to think about.
So, when Disney decided to think about closing down the monorail in order to facilitate the DVC construction at GF, they figured it would be a good time to do maintainence on the beams as well. It was going to be shut down for x number of hours anyway, why not add to it a bit and get that work done.

Why?? Because if they didn't do it now, they would have to shut the monorail down at another time in order to perform beam work. So, now they get to kill two birds with one very disappointing stone.

Here's hoping that the monorail and it's beam can be maintained in such a manner as to allow future guests uninterrupted service vs what they have been getting lately!!!

Logically, that makes a lot of sense. I would just hope they didn't do it during my trip.

I understand what you mean about being stranded on the highway in the sky. We were stuck there for about 15 minutes one time, and it felt like forever, especially if you have to go to the bathroom. That's why now I always go to the bathroom before I ride the monorail.:thumbsup2

Oh man, I hear ya. We were riding from Epcot to MK..had to take the boat over to FtW for HDDR. Well...we got stuck up there for close to 45 mins!!! My friend was obsessing over whether or not we would be late...but what was even worse were the hordes of kids crying and screaming!! There was one little 'diva' who kept screaming..'We're going to fall off, we're going to fall off and die!!!!'' OMG!!! And that in turn got all the other kids around us upset. And of course, we were in one of those double cars that are open to the next car...and we were packed in like sardines!! Hot, sweaty. Kids screaming. Parents getting really cranky. Nothing I look forward to doing again!!!

So yeah, it needs fixing...have at it Disney and get if fixed right this time!!!!!

In the blip of vacation issues really not a big deal.

Oh. My. Goodness. Now THAT is completely unacceptable! I would much prefer NO monorail to that.

Yeah, tell me about it. OR...the time the monorail beam got hit by lightning. OMG!! You should have seen the crowds at Epcot, trying to get to the TTC and surrounding resorts!!! There had to be at least 1,000 guests waiting for the buses. Disney did send addtl buses, to get folks to the MK resorts as well as the TTC, but it took forever. So......we headed to the TTC bus area..there are seldom many people there!!! We waited about 8 mins, a bus came along..the 15 or so of us in line got on board and off we went. Well...when we got to the TTC, the express monorail line was down the ramp and around a corner. The line for the ferry was outrageous...had to be about 3 ferries worth of guests waiting. So...we walked over to the Polyesian...figured we would take the Polynesian/GF/MK boat to MK..it was a late night in MK. But, there were probably about 50 people waiting there as well.
All in all, it took us about 2 hrs to get from Epcot to MK...all because there was an issue with the beam. Now, I know stuff happens, but it just goes to show that you can be left without the monorail at a moment's notice. And it will really have a huge impact if the lack goes on for awhile.

Clarification. You said "going to", as opposed to "in/at". I was curious how much of that 60-70% would be spent in transit vs how much would be spent in the park.

How ever long it took to get from the hotel to the park and vice versa.

Thank you for clearing that up; it looked like a personal attack to me.

No, it was an observation on your manner of responding to those you disagree with.

Perceived value is different from monetary value. There's no charge to use the monorail. That, combined with all the other features and benefits of staying in a Seven Seas Lagoon resort, indicates that there can't be a valid compensation.

No, actually it isn't. And yes, actually there can be. I'm not going to bore you with a lesson in economics, but perceived value absolutely factors in to monetary value (hence the existence of theme parks, among millions of other things). BTW, your insistence that your opinion is actually fact, and your continual use of emphasis on said opinion as fact, is kinda what I'm getting at with the whole "browbeating" thing. ;)

Include but not be limited to. Apparently, sufficient alternate (bus) transportation will be provided in addition to the ramped-up boat service.

Sufficient for whom? I already debunked your comparison of the different methods of transportation in question. Again, all you offer is your opinion, and then argue it as fact simply because I disagree with you.

The ability to make lemonade out of lemons, instead of the reverse. Your point?

Um, my point is that what you said had absolutely nothing at all to do with anything, other than maybe to back up what I said earlier in that everyone has their own opinion as to what and how differing aspects of their vacation effect them. Other than that, your statement was pointless.

I find it interesting that you have no qualms about throwing insult after criticism after attack at me, but when I provide 100% accurate information about a word that every Disney fan should know automatically (mini-brag: I really did, I didn't have to Google it), you get huffy.

Wow, dramatize much? I didn't get huffy, I laughed at the pettyness of it.

I know none of us would want other people shooting our opinions down because they disagree with us.:)

LOL, the problem on this thread is not that people are shooting down the opinions of others. The problem here is some folks don't believe anyone should be allowed to have an opinion different from theirs.

This is interesting. Apparently "a lot of people" (not doubting jujube or her/his cousin, but the CM if anyone) are so upset that there won't be monorail access to [just] one park a few hours each day that they're changing their reservations.
To resorts with fewer Disney-provided transportation options and/or longer travel times and distances required.
That are far less convenient to the Magic Kingdom, the proximity to which was the driving force behind the original resort choice.

Anybody else as confused as I am?

Just a wild guess, but I'd bet $$ has a bit to do with it......

The Serenity Prayer has been used, the circle is now complete. :rotfl:

Look, i know it sucks. But the monorail is mechanical. Mechanical things wear out and need maintenance. It's the nature of the beast. You just happen to be unlucky enough to be affected.

Call Disney, ask to be downgraded if you want. My only question, though, is ... Is the only rwason you are staying in a deluxe hotel is access to the Magic Kingdom monorail? You might want to reconsider your priorities.

Why? I have not responded so far but I am unclear why someone who pays for monorail access has to reconsider their priorities. I would only pay for a deluxe for the monorail. You can bring strollers on without folding them, it is easy to go back to your hotel for a midday break. I spend little time at my resort and the only reason I would pay for a deluxe is for the monorail. I know many people who stay at those hotels for the monorail. Disney charges more for those hotels because the convenience is a draw. They should have some compensation or be able to change their reservations to a cheaper option if they are not getting the one thing that they paid extra for. They may not care about any other feature of the poly except the monorail. That is the way I am and clearly many on this thread feel the same. If somebody pays extra for a service and they can not use that service, they should be compensated or should be able to switch resorts without penalty.

Disney should build some low-maintenance, cheap hotels, stick them on the monorail path, and charge deluxe resort prices, because what I have gathered from this thread is the only reason people stay at deluxe resorts is the monorail.

I like deluxe resorts but I'm happy at AKL or even a mod. The monorail is the only reason I would pay the kind of money charged for the resorts "on the monorail." I thought that was part of the reason they cost more. Am I wrong about that?

Disney pricing is so complicated that it is difficult to say.

AKL and WL both have smaller rooms then MK resorts(5 people instead of 4).

MK resorts have view, which missing from Epcot deluxes.

On the other hand Poly missing hottub, which is unheard of for deluxe resort probably everywhere or at least at Orlando.

All Disney resorts share transportation, except POP which is value and has the best transportation to all parks.

CSR got gym and spa, unlike other moderates.

POR can fit 5 people like deluxe.

So, go figure how exactly they price them. I think popularity is the key.

No. Not opinion. Experience. I'm the scooter user to whom goofy4tink refers. I refuse to back down on this one - even to bullying.
