You do realize that there is a resort monorail? It is for the convenience of guests staying in resorts on the resort monorail loop. It is not I know exclusively for their use but the Disney sign does say:
Yeah, sure it does. BUT...it is merely stating where the Resort Monorail is. Kind of like a sign letting guests know where the bus to BW is. Now, do you truly believe that only BW guests are allowed on that bus???
Just heard from my cousin whose family is leaving Saturday for WDW. She called to change their reservation from the GF to YC because The CM asked her why and she told them because of the monorail. He said that said lots of people are calling to change from the monorail resorts for the same reason.
Apparently, DIS boarders are not the only ones concerned about this issue.
And that's fine. They should be able to change resorts..with a minimum of hassle. I don't think anyone is arguing that point.
I'm a little confused? Isn't the main monorail from the Magic Kingdom to the ticket and transportation center still running? Isn't it just the hotel loop that will be closed? Please correct me if I am wrong? But if so, couldn't you just take the monorail to the main entrance and then have a short walk to the Poly???
Only the Epcot monorail line is up and functioning, as usual, at this time.
Here's the issue. For those of us who have been down to WDW many times in recent years, we can all give multiple examples of monorail shutdowns...with us on the monorail, making us late for ADRs. That monorail line needs maintainence. I'm sorry that there are those who are inconvenienced by this. And yes, those at these three resorts have every right to be disappointed. And they have every right to let Disney know how they feel. But, Disney made a decision to shut down the resort/express monorails for 6 hour period each day in order to 1. allow construction at the GF DVC site, and 2. provide much needed maintainence to the monorail system itself.
give me any arguments you want. if you book a room at "resort connected to a monorail" (we dare not call it a monorail resort), you do so, and pay the price to do so, so you have the CONVENIENCE of going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth (did I say, back and forth?) as many times as you want. DURING the day. that's the whole point!!
go back for a swim. to eat at the resort. go back for a nap. go back and forth...yay! we can do it as much as we want, that's the WHOLE ADVANTAGE. of the close proximity with the conveninent transortation...
and NO. alternate transportation does NOT make up for it. now you are in line for the boat, with all the people staying offsite, trying to get to the TTC.
I KNOw. when we were at BLT, and the monorail was down after hours, the line for the ferry boat was RIDICULOUS!!!!! I know, cause I was there. it was CRAZY!!!! we only had to walk to CR so it was ok.. (although, I still was bummed that I couldn't ride the monorail back , since it was our first time staying at a MONORAIL (connected.. tee hee) RESORT!
it was a lot longer walk then we thought... no big deal.
the IMPRESSION given IS : stay at one of the 3 resorts connected to the monorail, and you can zip back and forth to the MK.
if you are paying PRIMO dollars to stay at one of the MONORAIL CONNECTED resorts (did I phrase that correctly?) you are thinking that you will not have to stand in line with the people going going to the MK parking lot. and can zip back to the room for a nap or swim or eat.
I still think people have the right to complain if the particular ammenities of the resort they are paying for are not available.
Just a few observations....I have stayed at the Polynesian, CR and BLT..actually own DVC at BLT. I'm familier with the lines for the boat and the monorail. There are really not all that many lines for boats during the midday hours. Yes, if you head to the monorail platform, at MK, at park closing, you are going to see people boarding the resort monorail and getting off at the Polynesian and then walking over to the TTC. BUt in all reality??? It just isn't that many people. Why? It makes absolutely no sense. The Express monorail is really a ton faster...yes, it gets filled up, but it is quicker and offers more availability. By the time the resort monorail gets to the Polynesian, the Express monorail has made it to the TTC and is on it's way back...probably two runs to one for the resort line.
Currently, when the monorail is down for service, 11:30-6, Disney has more boats in service. I realize that doesn't make up for the disappointment of not being able to ride the monorail back to the Polynesian or GF at 2pm. But, it's not as if you're left standing, waiting for a boat, for 30 mins. That just isn't so.
And when you book a room at any WDW resort, there is that famous fine print that tells you everything is subject to change. At least this time, you are all aware of the monorail deficiences..you can plan accordingly. Disney has put more buses and boats into service to get you from your resort to MK and back again. That is truly preferable to being stuck, high up there, in the monorail, as they try to fix whatever the heck went wrong with it.
I also think you can stop poking at me for trying to give out the info that Disney offers....MK resorts vs monorail resorts. I'm truly sorry this offended you. Just trying to be accurate. Won't let that happen again!!!!
There was a time, not long ago..you did need I.D. to ride the resort monorail. It's possible, this will be revisited.
And again...if you have an ADR at the Polynesian??? Or the GF??? This really isn't that big a deal. Besides, as I keep saying, this isn't an issue for park closing. The monorail is up and running at that time...well, unless MK is closing at 5:30 now.
I have yet to have to show a room ID in order to ride the monorail to any resort. And, that's experience from '99 to today. About the only time this is in effect is for super busy holiday times when non-resort guests are trying to get to the Polynesian in order to stand on the beach and watch those special fireworks show...for instance.
If you are the least bit familar with the monorail resorts you know that you only need to hop on the monorail and get off at the TTC and then can hop on the epcot line. Now if you wanted to go from 11.30 to 6.00 you would either need to walk which is a long one from GF and not feasable from the CR.Or find alternate transportation to TTC. So thus now you have a greater hassle to go to epcot. Also if you have listened to our handicapped friends on these boards they have stated many times the monorail is a much much more convient way to get around in scooters to the parks. This makes a bigger mess for them too.Kinda throws a monkey wrench in it for them too! You also can not rely on the fact that it may start ahead of schedule either.
Oh, she's pretty familier with the TTC. And
scooter riding guests?? Kinda preaching to the choir on that one.
So, really? Disney has put in buses to get GF guests to the TTC. And you know what??? I imagine that the buses are actually faster than the monorail. The monorail from the GF to the TTC takes about 15+ mins. The bus is going to be much faster.
Seriously? On THIS thread you are telling someone else to "get a grip"?
Everyone under the sun knows your opinion, but, you feel the need to repeat, repeat, repeat.
Honestly, when your neighbor says something you don't agree with do you go over and knock on her door every.ten.minutes. to berate her again?
You know...it's more than just one person who is repeatedly stating their opinion. It's really not fair to tell just one person that they are repeating themselves. If each person here got to post their thoughts just once, this thread would have died at page 4.
Seriously?? This whole thread is getting ridiculous. Yes, people staying at these resorts are disappointed. If you book one of these resorts due to the proximity of the monorail then you have every right to complain to Disney.
And should Disney have let those impacted know of this disruption in service? Sure, that would have been nice. But, history shows us that Disney doesn't do this. They figure (right or wrong), that they'll just deal with guests on a one to one basis. The vast majority of guests are going to be sad, upset for a bit, and then go to their rooms. It's a very small percentage that will ask to be moved, ask for compensation due to the lack of monorail at all times. And, no, I'm not saying those people shouldn't be upset..or ask for compensation. Up to them. I am saying that Disney knows exactly what they are doing. They figure they can deal with the small percentage of truly upset MK resort guests when they arrive.
It is ridiculous to sit here and argue about which resorts are more expensive because they have monorail availability. For the most part, you're only talking about a small difference in room rates between the Polynesian and say, BW or YC/BC. The GF gets more simply due to it's 'elegance' and it's being the flagship resort. Me? I have no interest in staying there...just doesn't 'get it done' for me. I like the Polynesian well enough. And the CR is one of my favorite resorts. So, yeah, if the monorail was to be taken away from me when I was at the CR, I suppose I would be disappointed. But...I think I could deal with it for just those few hours. But...that's just ME...I'm not saying that anyone else should feel the same way.
I just don't understand the 'bitterness' here. And it has gotten bitter and meanspirited.
