Absolutely unacceptable

If the monorails were your primary reason for staying at Poly, to be close to MK, then I understand your dissapointment. If I were you, I would change to an Epcot area resort. They have some wonderfull choices available. It might ease the sting a bit.

I hope you have a good trip. Wish I was going. :goodvibes

The March shut down is not for maintenance. They have to shut it down because of DVC construction at the Grand Floridian.

Thank Lauren...good point...but communication to the client is also key. The people booking the monorail resorts should have been informed.

I swear, if Disney started shoving killer bees down guests' shorts, some here would tell those that complained to shutup, wait for them to build a hive and enjoy the honey.

The OP posted the time range. so obviously they planned to use it during that time, so why question her about it?

Definitely make the complaint. If nobody complains they won't even realize things like this bother anybody. Plus, they might offer you something to try to make up for the inconvenience. That's not a guarantee of course, but you never know until you call/email them. Snail mail can be effective, but since you leave Friday there isn't really time for that. You can also talk to the desk when you check-in. You shouldn't complain just to try to get something, but at least if they do offer something you know they understand you have a valid complaint.

I always take the boat over to MK when I am there and avoid the monorail... guess I'm weird.

It does stink but i have to say when we stayed at Poly we walked to the TTC to go to Epcot & we even to the express route to got MK-now that doesn't work for this but there is the ferry & boats to MK.

Kae

I would also be upset about having a reserved room on the monorail loop & then having the monorail not being in service while I'm there.

However, I would think the Poly would be the best resort to be at in this particular situation - you can walk to the TTC & pick up the EPCOT monorail. Plus, you'll have a resort boat that goes from the Poly to the MK as well.

Or I would try to switch my reservation to one of the EPCOT resorts.

Thanks all. :goodvibesIt always feels good to know I'm not the only one that has these feelings. (I'm obviously excluding the Joker who told me to cancel my trip). It will still be a magical trip, but I will not understand why they don't do the work at night instead.

Because if they did the work at night, under fluorescent floodlights, hundreds of people paying $600-$1000 a night at the Grand Floridian, and on the far end of the Polynesian in Aotearoa, Fiji, and Tuvalu would complain about how they can't get any sleep at night due to the floodlights and construction noise.

Pick your poison. *shrugs*

Good grief aint't that the truth!!! Especially on these boards. Don't flame me but honestly people, 300 plus bucks a night !!! Are you all that wealthy to just dismiss this?

I agree.

I'm staying at the Polynesian in two weeks, and I have not received any notification from Disney about the monorail's limited hours. The only reason I know is because of DIS and AllEars. I feel bad for the guests that don't find out about this until they get there.

I was super upset when I first found out, but then after the initial shock, I realized that this really didn't affect me that much.

We get up and go to the parks around opening - we will have definitely left for our resort by 11:30. Yes, we usually do go back in the afternoons, but it's actually quicker to take the boat there than to be the third stop on the monorail. There aren't that many people headed back to their resorts in the middle of the afternoon... the monorail and water launch lines are usually very short. When the park closes, the monorails should be up and running again.

What I was most worried about is our Chef Mickey's ADR... but that's not until 7:30 PM, so again, the monorail should be running. And then the GF is walking distance, so 1900 Park Fare shouldn't be a problem.

Don't get me wrong - I definitely consider this a setback since you're essentially paying $$$ for the convenience of the monorail. Our second choice was the Wilderness Lodge, which of course has the boat to MK. If the monorail was shut down completely, I'd be peeved and switch to WLR. However, since it is operating on limited hours (the hours we'll most likely be using it, anyway), it's really not that big of a deal for us.

Construction dates are not exact. The only way they could have informed guests is to send out some weirdly worded communication about how the monorail may or may not be in service starting on x date and ending on about x date. And then they would get complaints if it wasn't down, and people had changed their reservation to a non-monorail resort.

I agree it stinks. I'm not even staying at a Magic Kingdom resort and I'm still unhappy about it! However, there is not much we can do about it, and I'm not sure how Disney could have handled the closure without upsetting anyone.

I don't think they could have informed the people who were planning to book the resorts, but now that we know for sure that it's going to be down during this time, I would like an email notification from Disney (since I'm also booked at the Poly in March) telling me about the monorail's limited hours.

Sorry to those who think we're stuffing bees in your pants or whatever.

Again...my Fortune 100 company is on a major river and people across the river complain when we are too "bright" for one reason or another. Fact is that it's not that big a deal and once we COMMUNICATE the time it will take, everyone seems to be happy. I can't address the noise issue and that might be a very valid complaint, but I'm sure there is a better solution. Heck, I was at Jambo AK when they were constructing Kidani. I truly believe I would not be as aggravated as I was if they had JUST TOLD ME WHAT TO EXPECT. Communications is key. Instead I felt duped.

In short - this is why we will stay only where we can walk from resort to park. So CR, or the EPCOT resorts. I can stand one bus trip to AK, but the daily hassle of Disney transportation plucked my last nerve on our last trip.

I would make the complaint, especially since no warnings were given. I made one about early closure during EMH during our trip in January (even though I knew about the closures in advance). The Poly is nice - we weren't wowed, so we don't need to stay there again - but the big draw for us was staying on the monorail. When it's working, it's a beautiful system. It's easy, you can push your stroller directly onto it, walk off, and head to your room. No folding a stroller, no moving sleeping kids, no dirty looks from people when your kid is screaming on a loaded bus, etc etc etc. That is is worth the price of the Poly.

If I wanted to be crammed into a bus, or loaded into a boat where I may or may not have to take my kids out of their stroller, I would stay elsewhere. And I will in the future.

Looking at this situation it doesn't make sense that this was a planned closing. Disney is normally very good at letting people know about closings that are going to inconvenience so many. Plus as several PP have mentioned March is a busy time of year for Spring Break/Flower and Garden etc. As was mentioned before the construction of the new DVC Villas must be progressing quicker than they thought.

For the other poster with kids that was going to stay at the Poly just change over to the Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge if you can. The price should be comparible and the walk/boad ride over to the magic kingdom is short.

I can't argue with you on that one. I know a few years back when we showed up at POR and the pool slide was closed the whole time, with no notice, I was beyond peeved. It didn't help that the manager on duty made me feel like a moron for being upset either. I do think Disney needs to communicate better, and let their guests make informed choices on what to do and how to handle the situation.
