I may have DH convinced for a do-over trip for DS's 8th birthday but I have to keep the entire trip under $2500 (including food, airfare, transportation to/from the airport and park hoppers etc.)

What are the cheapest hotels/motels within walking distance of the park (we won't have a car, I can get the DL express for $99 for the whole fam)

The cheapest within walking distance will be Anaheim Plaza. But remember that you get what you pay for. We stayed there three times a few years ago, but won't stay there anymore, however, I am usually in the minority when it comes to this motel.

We stayed at the Park Vue Inn - right across the street from main entrance - paid 150 per night for 2 adults 2 kids - might not be the cheapest but.....breakfast is included and it was pretty good and a light supper was included also - from 5 or 530 to 7. There are cookies and water and juice and fruit in the lobby. It is an easy walk so you don't need to purchase ART.

So, it seemed like pretty good value.

We only bought late lunch at a restaurant every day - took snacks to disney as well as water bottles which we filled in the park

good luck

Anaheim Plaza
Del Sol
Quality Inn & Suites

These all seem to have really low nightly rates, but are not the nicest accommodations. Anaheim Plaza probably gets the best reviews of the 3 listed above.

My first choice when going cheap is always to check HoJo's entertainment rates.

Yet another vote for the Anaheim Plaza Hotel.

It's an older hotel, but serviceable, and definitely walking distance.

Pros: price
walking distance
safe
large rooms
HUGE pool
hot tub

Cons:
beds aren't the most comfy
decor needs updating

You can get the best rates by booking through their website.

Park Vue and the Best Western right next to Park Vue. SUPER close and inexpensive. If you don't plan on spending time in the room then they are prefect (sleep, shower, quick rest). If you need to spend lots of time in the room then I would probably pick somewhere else.

Candy Cane Inn!!! $120ish a night, free breakfast, shuttle but totally walkable (back of hotel is against CA side fence). The $120 is what I am paying for two nights on a Sunday/Monday next week when I go down for a business trip - you may be able to get cheaper. Quiet, clean, not huge rooms, pool, excellent staff, FREE parking. I love it there. Stayed there 4 nights two years ago @ Spring Break and paid $99/night for 3 adults & 1 kid - call - then will sometimes do a better rate over the phone too.

I booked The Menage hotel today for $59 through bookit. This hotel is the 3.5 star Anaheim Resort Mystery Hotel. I have stayed there several times, comfy beds, restaurant on site with nothing over $10, great view of fireworks, great pool area with tiki bar. Can be noisy from traffic and not the shortest walk. The ART shuttle does pick-up from there.

How about the Carousel Inn and Suites? :) 5 minute walk to Disney Entrance and Quizno's on site. Not a bad price either.

We stay at the Anaheim Plaza for 59 a night. Pack some cereal bars, granola bars, peanut butter crackers etc and make it a cheaper stay.

I booked Quality Inn & Suites on manchester for ~$60 with AAA for a friday in sept. I stayed there one night last year and it was decent- not nice but worked for being there from 9 pm- 7 am ONLY.
Cancelled that for HoJos buts its twice the price. Just wanted something nicer since we'll be hanging out on that trip.

I stayed with DS7 through Hotwire at $57. I agree that the hotel was pretty loud but we liked the room and did walk. I did a review on it here and I believe it was about 14 minutes to walk. I do not think we could have walked with daytime breaks for 5 days. I would not hesitate to stay there on a short trip, though.

Can't help you with the hotel (I live here) but for food I do highly recommend bringing along snacks (particularly high protein like nuts, trail mix, etc.) and refillable water bottles. I also recommend eating at White Water Snacks. It's located just outside of DCA in the Grand Californian and is really tucked away. In my experience, it's the best food value for your money in the resort.

I've stayed at Best Western Park Place Inn and Anaheim Plaza and I much prefer BWPPI. BWPPI is right across the street, whereas AP is a bit of a longer walk - I also think the rooms are nicer. You can get a 10% discount if you have an Entertainment Book, I recently booked BWPPI for September at $89 a night.

The last time my friend and I went to Disneyland, we ate at IHOP a lot before and after we'd visit the parks - their specials are always really cheap and we like their food. I think this saved us some money compared to if we had eaten every meal at Disneyland.

what airport are you flying into? Have you checked Super Shuttle's rates? I have overall read better comments on Super Shuttle. From Orange County, a taxi is only about $40.

LAX. There aren't any direct flights into orange county and the ones where you have to stop add 2+hours to the trip...not fun if we can avoid it ;)

Is there a reason you need walking distance? You can take the ART(anaheim resort transit) for super duper cheap from many hotels in the area. We LOVE the Embassy Suites South - and usually I can get rates for $100ish a night. And it's two rooms! And comes with a HUGE free breakfast in the mornings. We usually take ziplock bags and fill them with stuff for the rest of the day - and usually get away with eating just breakfast and dinner because of it. the ART picks you up and drops you off right in front of the hotel, so it's super convenient. And it is a beautiful hotel (and I'm a hotel snob!)

How far in advance are you booking? Ramada maingate is very close (across the street and maybe a 5 minute walk) its clean and it has a special for advanced booking. 25% off for pre pay if you book at least in days in advance.
