W Colonial Dr, Winter Garden, FL

I work very close to there, and drive past there every day. YUCK! No way I'd want to move in there with or without kids. The entrance is actually that little stub off of Avalon Road. Go a few hundred feet down Avalon and you're in one of the nastiest areas in the greater Orlando area, Tildenville. There are SOOOO many other apartment complexes in the area that would be such a better choice. And frankly few to none of them are in Winter Garden... Can I ask why on earth you're looking at Winter Garden?

Except for some of the communities down near Windemere off Maguire I wouldn't suggest Winter Garden as a place to live.

I also want to ask if you've already got jobs lined up and what the motivation for moving is?

I would avoid Colonial Drive like the plague! Also known as Highway 50, this road has the highest number of fatalities in Central Florida.

I agree with Ducklite. YUCK! You'd regret it.

I KNOW you can do better!

When we were looking to move to Florida, we were thinking about a place just off 192 in Kissimee. A local friend warned us about the traffice and that area and boy were we grateful! I think if we had done that, we would have hightailed it back to New England within weeks.

Im a dietary aide at a nursing home, and my husband is on disability, and so is my oldest..

My step daughter husband put in a transfer to Orlando and we would like to move with them the only problem is.. We are on government assistance.. (no we are not unworking lazy bums, which somepeople have the wrong idea about that. I work and my husband is going to school so as soon as he is declared capiable of work he will). I didnt mean to sound so rude. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: We are not planning on living like that forever just right now we need the help.. and we have not always lived like that.. Things just happened..

That is why im wondering about some of these places!!
I just dont know where to look?? I want a safe place for my family, and I would kind of like it to feel like a small hometown feeling..

Can you please help?? It doesn't have to Orlando, but somewhere in a 30 mile radius?? I don't know where to start??

Thank you for you help..

The place in Clermont is an OK choice. It's the best of the three places you've named so far. A few blocks in one direction is a neighborhood I don't like to drive through, a few blocks in the other direction is a really nice area. Not sure which school that is, some in Clermont are great, others are so-so.

The place in Kissimmee is right off 192 and in an area with not so hot schools and lots of transience. I would pretty much avoid anything that close to WDW. The four areas you really want to avoid are Ocoee, Pine Hills, the Route 50 (East/West Colonial Drive) corridor, and the 192 (East/West Irlo Bronson Drive) corridor. Well, and South OBT.

Do you know where your relatives will be living?

Where are you finding these listings?

U-Haul will cost a fortune! Penske is the ONLY way to go for a long distance move. Just an FYI, plan on the Penske rental and gas from where you live now to WDW to run $5000+ I'm NOT kidding. U-Haul charges milage and gets lower gas milage and they will run probably closer to $7000.

definately go with Penske. we wedged everything into their largest truck and got a trailer for one of our vehicles. it was an 1100 mile move and the rentals were about $1200.00 total. the truck was brand new, U-Hauls are junk. gas was half the price it is now, so that helped. it was a nice tax deduction, though.
