? About using gift cards

I've been saving up Disney gift cards to use on our Dec. trip. I plan to use them for all purchases such as souvineers and food. My ? is - will I have to keep track of the amount left on the card or do their systems do it? For example, if I have a card with $10 left on it but I purchase $40 worth of whatever, when I hand the first card do I need to specify it is for $10 or will it automatically charge the $10 then ask for the remaining amount? Thanks!

It won't be necessary to keep track. You should be fine if you don't want to do it. I put a blank label on each card and write the balance on it but there's also a Disney Gift Card App that you can use and it will keep track as well.

When you give the card to a cashier, they will scan it and the computer knows how much is on it.
If you are making a $40 purchase and you give the cashier a $10 gift card, the full amount will automatically be applied towards the purchase, leaving you with a $0 balance on the gift card, and $30 remaining due on the purchase.

When you get your receipt, it will show each separate gift card and the amount used from it, as well as the remaining balance left on it.

You do not have to keep track of the balances, but it is always wise to do so.
Mistakes can still happen.
If you do not keep track, you will not know if a mistake has been made.

Personally, I carry a mini sharpie with me and write the new balance on the card until it is fully used up.
Once it has a zero balance, I write 0 on it and bend the card. That way, I know it is spent, but I can hang onto it to help track my spending. Just a personal quirk of mine.
