About to buy at Bay Lake. Mistake??? please help.

You're likely looking at around $2000 price difference between the one larger vs 2 smaller contract purchase. I think many people find they actually need less points long term than they think so you might consider an in between purchase and see how it goes, esp if you find a good contract that's not quite 320.

WORD.

I rushed out and bought 310 points (160+100 on resale market and 50 direct). We are visiting Disney 3x/year on those points, staying in studios. That's a lot of Disney!!

BTW, OP, I LOVE BLT. It's a wonderful resort and I can't say enough good things about it. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does.

I just heard from the broker I'm working with and the second person accepted my offer.

The added bonus is that this person just cancelled a trip they had planned and I know have 314 points to use in 2012 for this contract.

So with the two combined I will have 522points in 2012.

Absolutely fantastic!!!

Congratulations!!! This happened when we purchased our contracts, we had two loaded contracts and ended up this past summer staying at BLT for a couple of nights and then SSR Grand Villa for a few nights and then 5 night Disney cruise with two connecting aft balcony rooms ALL ON POINTS. Others said rent the points for the cruise and then purchase but we had the points to burn so we did :thumbsup2

Please come back to this thread and let us know when you pass ROFR and give us what was asked and what you ended up paying.

:wizard: Pixie Dust to you! Good luck!:cheer2:
We also stayed

:thumbsup2 Congratulations on the two contracts and also for reading up on what you purchased. It amazes me how people do not research what they buy. It sounds like you may be a DVC purist (that is what I call folks who really only want to stay at their home resort). I am married to an AKV purist...he doesn't want to stay at any of the other DVC resorts.

Just as an aside. Our trip in Dec was with my parents and it was their first trip with DVC. I think they fully understand why we see the value in it now. My Mom (68) and I (43) were laying on the bed in min and DH's studio and I was facing the window. Then a giraffe meandered by....I said "Mama, where else on Earth could I be laying down in a resort room and see a giraffe walk by?" (I mean outside of Africa, right). She just laughed and said, " It is amazing". In my mind I was thinking where else could I do that on a nurse and fireman's salary.

Thanks DVC and the DIS. I always learn so much from threads like this one.

Congratulations!!! Nice that everything is working out for you and what a great problem to have--more points!!!!!

Congrats! You will love it, love it, love it at BLT. My kids are in college and they still love BLT. They love to rent the little boats and drive around the lake. They still love watching the fireworks at the MK and nothing beats walking back to BLT when everyone else is waiting for a bus or the monorail!d

Enjoy your new home!

Congrats! I just found this thread. Very excited for you :thumbsup2

We own at BLT, my kids are 15 and 18 they love this resort! Your kids are quite young yet, but the proximity to Sammy Duvalls for parasailing and tubing and water sports is great! :goodvibes

Make sure you buy the correct home resort! Trying to stay somewhere else other than your home resort can be a nightmare!

I am currently trying to book at BLT during a slower time of year and can't get the room size, view and dates to line up. Once there is a break in your reservation you can't book ahead and the 7 month window kicks in. For example, lets say you want to stay Sun to Fri. If only Sun is available, then you need to call back the next day to see what is open. If the next day only Monday and Tuesday is open then you need to call back again, and so on and so on and so on. This makes it even harder to line everything up because availability changes daily! We stared off with all dates available except one....our second day, so we could only book one day. I am now on day 4 of trying to line up a one week trip (during a "slow" time of year) and will still need to be on waiting lists to line up the views (because I am grabbing whatever I can to see if I can make it all line up). It is a mess!

I had the same thoughts as you. Save some money by buying into another home resort and chose to stay at a different location. So glad I am renting these points to try it out before buying into it!

Sounds as if you got a very good deal. Good for you. Before you know it you'll be watching Wishes from the Top of the World Lounge!

WOW!!!!

Amazing responses. Thank you all very much for all your reply's. Very insightful information.

I need to learn how all the acronyms. I had to do 4 searches to figure out what resorts everyone was talking about but I'm getting there.

There's a lot of info I'm trying to remember to respond to and I apologize for not outlining who said what.

Here are a couple points:

1) I'm assuming U/Y is use year. The points I'm looking at are two separate contracts that actually have the same renewal month and 2060 expiry. Someone suggested that I should keep these contracts separate in case I wanted to resell them. I think I would prefer to merge them if I can to help with booking and one account number. Is this possible? Recommendations?

I have 4 contracts at BLT all the same acct. number. 3 were direct purchases and one was a resale. As long as the contracts you are looking at have the same UY and are titled under the same name(s), the acct. number can remain the same. You probably will need to follow up with the real estate broker and the titling company to make sure the multiple contracts are entered into Disney's system this way. So, multiple contracts with one account number are possible and preferable for resale purposes over one large contract. The booking issues really occur with multiple contracts and multiple UY's. But as long as the UY's are the same, I can tell you there is no points management issue.

Like I told you on the other thread, what is a slow time for WDW is not always a slow time for DVC. From October to early January is very busy for DVC and often you have to book at 11 months out to get the prime locations. And if you can get the non-home resort to line up exactly at 7 months out, you are lucky. There really are very few slow times with DVC.

We tried to get BCV exactly at 7 months out for mid-October and couldn't get seven nights together. We were very lucky and got seven night and then added two more nights after seven more day waiting (different contract so a new stay) at BLT with a lake view.

The best deal is the cheapest option a given buyer is happy to stay at most trips. Buying anything with the intent of reserving a single high demand option is not reasonable. Some lower demand locations will generally be available (OKW, SSR) most of the time at 7 months out. So it's likely not a significant risk buying anything to stay at SSR or OKW outside of a 3 BR but the reverse is often not the case. If you need BLT most of the time, for example, one should likely either buy there or not buy at all. However, I think it's a minority where that this ends up actually being the case for most trips.

That was BAD advice. While it may[/I work out some of the time, you certainly can't count on it!

You know you love the Contemporary and want to stay there. You should not consider buying anywhere else.

We own at BLT (and others.) There's been times when we've wanted to book BLT inside the 7 month window and have NOT been able to get what we wanted. We don't travel at peak times either.
