Okay, I am very close to booking our car rental for this years trip. The company I am looking at is called America Car Rental and they have given me what seems like a good price (plus there is 10% cashback with TCB/Quidco).

Picking up from MCO at 18:30 on 31/10/12 and dropping off in Cape Canaveral at 13:30 on 10/11/12 is coming up at £277 for an intermediate SUV including full tank and additional drivers.

Does this look like a good price?

Thanks for any help! :thumbsup2

First I checked was Netflights £268.00 less 5% Quidco(only on the base rental, not on the platinum upgrade) so not much difference

No time to check anymore tonight but you are not far out at that.

Just tried to post & lost it!!

US Rent a Car are coming in at 237.39 for the gold rate on the dates quoted. I have used them for our December trip to rent the same type of vehicle and they were the cheapest for me. I put in an age of 35 - so that might make a difference.

Also the drop off was N Atlantic Avenue to get the Dollar quote as this must be where their office is.

That is a great price. They were the cheapest last time I wanted a one way rental to the port.

Thank you so much, just booked! Thought the quote I got was good! :goodvibes

Thank you too Wayne for checking :thumbsup2

Can I ask how you got to the cruise terminal after dropping the car off? Is there a shuttle service or would I need to book a taxi?

Thanks.

I used Budget but I would expect them all to offer the same service near the port. Dropped the car and they had a minibus waiting to take people to the ships, dropped off at Royal Caribbean first then around to Disney. When we got back there was a designated area for the rental companies to collect people, just stood at the Budget stop and a minibus was around in about 10 mins. Only problem then is you are all heading to exactly the same place, in one line and only 1 agent, luckily we were first off so right to the front.

A word of warning about the Dollar shuttle service to the port. When we cruised in October, DH and Tony dropped us all off at the port, then took the rental cars back to the Dollar garage, hoping to get a shuttle back to port.

According to DH, they only had one shuttle bus so they had to wait for it to make the journey to port and get back again and there were several families (complete with luggage) all waiting in front of them. Unfortunately, neither of them had any money with them but DH eventually managed to get hold of me on the mobile and I arranged to meet them out front so they hopped in a taxi and I paid when they got to port. By that time, they had been waiting well in excesss of an hour. It was almost an hour and a half later that they got back to port and into the terminal. We were given boarding card '3' when we arrived but they had actually finished announcing all the numbers by the time the guys made it back to us. If we used Dollar car rental to the port again, we would never rely on their shuttle service.

ETA: I just noticed that you mentioned 'drop off' at 1330. Are you actually planning on arriving to Port Canaveral that late? If so, you might be alright as most people will already be at the terminal and on board by then.

Thanks for the heads up Joh :thumbsup2

Yeah, I am not a big fan of crowds so I'm more than happy to arrive at port a bit later. We did the same last year when we were on the dream and found check in to be a breeze!

If there is a big queue then we will probably get a taxi instead, can you remember how much that cost you last time?

Thanks!

I honestly can't remember - it was a negligible amount though (possibly around $8). I remember saying to DH that we should have just arranged for him to get a taxi anyway had we realised it would be such a small amount. Think we gave the driver $10 for the fact that he had to hag around outside for a couple of minutes until I got out there with some money.

Budget is a great one for shuttle to the port. They run 4 shuttle vans from the rental office to the ship. Best if you can drop the others in your party off at the ship along with the luggage that way your wait for the shuttle will be quick since you wont be lugging bags with you.
