About those SW "A" boarding passes . . .

I am flying with a group of 12 high school students in June. SW has the best prices, but I'm hesitant because of the seating. I'm worried that some of the kids might be uncomfortable if they are seated with strangers. (Many of them are first time fliers.) If we check in early and get our A boarding passes, I know that increases our chances of sitting together. (Actually, I don't need us all together, but I would like for all of the kids to have one friend next to them.) Anyway, if we check in early in Little Rock and get A passes for our flight from Little Rock to St. Louis, do we have to check in again to get our passes from St. Louis to Orlando? Or do we get our boarding passes for our connecting flight when we check in for our first flight? I'm hoping this question makes sense. We don't have much time between flights, so I can't see how we would get there in time to get A passes for the connection. Any thoughts?

well, if you do the online check-in, you can get your boarding passes for LR and ORL at the same time. That's what I do when I have a layover. Also, I would call SW and see if they have a policy on boarding with groups especially with teenagers.

Southwest does not have a special boarding procedure for teenagers.

If you manage to get some seats together the group can switch seats during the flight so those most uncomfortable are together.

At least for air travel and perhaps train travel, if any one of the teens finds that stranger-seatmates are obnoxious, s/he should bring it to the attention of the flight crew, if possible before departure.

I'm not really worried that they'll end up sitting by someone obnoxious or anything like that. I just know that teens (and these are mostly girls in the 13-15 age range) are always more comfortable with a friend than a stranger - especially in situations that are a bit out of their comfort zone to begin with.


As for the on-line check in, can I do that for all of us at one time? (We're all under one reservation number.) Or would everybody have to do their own?

You can check in online early in the morning with SW and print out your own boarding passes. We have never had trouble getting A passes when doing this.

If its all under one reservation yes you can get all the boarding passes at one time. I did this for my neighbors a few months ago. You can do it on-line at 12:01 am on the day of the flight.

Great. And, just to make sure I have this right, four our return trip . . .

We are staying at All Star Movies (no computer or printer access) but I can have my husband (who will be at home) use my information to check us all in on-line and then I just need to ask them to re-print my boarding passes when we arrive at the airport - but we should have our "A" status locked in.

Is that correct?

Actually, you can check in on-line 24 hours prior to your flight time....no need to do it at 12:01 am anymore (thank goodness!).

We did the same as you are planning regarding the flight home. A friend at home checked us in on-line since we were in the parks 24 hours prior to flight time and we wanted to be sure to get "A" passes. When we came back to CSR at night, the concierge CM printed them out for us. I think you can do the same at ASMu. If ASMu can't print them, you can print them at the airport and you'll still have your "A" passes.

Another hint....when you get to the airport, get in line right away where they have the lines roped off....whichever line is for your boarding pass. We've done this at BWI and MCO with great success. Good luck!
