Just returned from the 7 day Magic.... awesome, can't wait to try the Western cruise! As the mother of two girls aged 9 and 12 and the veteran of several trips to islands where the girl have their hair braided, I offer these tips for taking the braids out:
Unless your daughter has unusually coarse hair, don't let the briads (or cornrows) stay in for more than 2 weeks. It puts a lot of stress on the hair and scalp and causes a lot of breakage.
Saturate her hair with a LOT of conditioner, and let it sit while you take out the foil or elastics and beads. Then comb each braid through the conditioner up from the bottom. This beats trying to di it "dry" and makes it a lot less painful. The braids are fun to get but, "all good thiings must come to an end!"
