about "The Kingdom Keepers"

love them! DS13 found book 3 for me, but it's been so long since I've read 1 and 2, I've started to reread them. I hope to be ready to read book 3 by our trip.

Kingdom Keepers is a great series of Books.. I believe there are going to be 5 books in total.. It has gained a lot of popularity over the past few years.. When the Second book Came out Ridley Pearson did a book signing at downtown Disney and there weren't many people that showed up. Last month He did another one. He started signing at around 3:30.. I arrived at about 4:00 and the line was already wrapped outside of once upon a toy. It took me over 3 hours to meet him but well worth it.

I just ordered, can't wait to get them in the mail! Read the bio on Ridley Pearson, very interesting background!

I enjoyed the first one, too - read it out loud to my fourth graders. As a whole, they really enjoyed it, but it was tough for the kids who hadn't been to visualize it. I spent a lot of time explaining things. I agree with the comment on riding It's a Small World after reading the book, though!

I keep waiting for our library to get the second and third books...no such luck so far. I've been looking at Half Price books, too. I don't want to just put them on my Kindle, because if I buy them I want my students to be able to read them as well.

What age/ grade level are these books appropriate for? DS has become very interested in these books from the segments on Disney Channel. He reads well above grade level, but I've had the impression they are more teen/ young adult.

According to http://www.arbookfind.com (which provides information for those using the Accelerated Reader program), the books are on a Middle Grades interest level. (Definitely grades 6-8..4 & 5 might be lumped into that group, too, but I'm not 100%.)

I liked reading the 1st book. It was nice to read something written on a Middle School level that actually sounds something like it may have taken place at Disney. I teach 7th grade. In 6th grade, they take a class field trip to WDW. I have to ban them from writing about Disney because they are so incredibly inaccurate! One said as soon as he walked in the gate he could smell the corn dogs and funnel cake. I spent 5 minutes or more on my soap box, explaining where corn dogs and funnel cakes are sold in the World, and what it REALLY looks/sounds/smells like when you walk in. It just sounded more like they were writing about the annual county fair.

Am I the only one who thinks that this book has great potential and a very original concept but lacks in execution?

I found it a little shallow and was expecting more details. Harry Potter is intended for a similar audience and was offering a lot more in term of complexity and depth.

on a whim i read "Disney After Dark". it had some issues but i kinda liked it...so... i went hunting for "Disney At Dawn". i took me a couple of months of shelf surfing to find it and i am glad i did. Pearson seems to have worked it out and has a pretty nice franchise on his hands. Yesterday i bought "Disney In Shadow" and as soon as i am done with the latest Jack Reacher novel i am doing it..... anyway........it is nice to see that the company (disney) is getting behind this series and promoting it....i will put myself out on a limb and project either a Disney Channel series or more likely a movie franchise is in its future. anyone else like these books or have an opinion?

Too funny. I had just finished a Jack Reacher novel when I started reading the latest KK!!! Can't remember which one it was though...I have been reading them all out of order, so to speak.

I do have a friend who is a huge Disney nut but also teaches high school English. He said he hadn't started reading KKs yet, but was planning on it so as to see what the younger kids were reading.

i think the author is at the far edge of his talent......no "The Da Vinci Code" hiding in there............just my opinion. again though, i do enjoy them.
