Is there a trick to using them in the villas?!?!?!

Are they on some kind of sensor so they only work if you are in the room?

I just hate returning to a muggy, sticky room and it seems like that happens every time we come "home". Just about the time I am ready to call the front desk and complain about our "non-working" unit it seems to get a bit cooler ... am I imagining this?

We lived in England for a few years with the military and I got to travel all over Europe. While there, we found that the ACs only worked if you put your room key in a switch on the wall ... we got around this by leaving my key in the wall and just locking the room with hubby's and giving it to the front desk.

Is there a similar trick for the villas that I am unaware of?

Thanks!

I have heard some say - buy a balloon and it will float around the room tripping the sensor...
I have not tried it, but then again we tend not to go to Disney in the warmer months

Thanks!!

I was beginning to think that I was crazy ... and hubby kept telling me it was all in my mind! :lmao: However, I knew that it felt cooler in the hallways, elevator and "lobby" so I didn't think that I was imagining it.

Anyone else have ideas?!?! Love the balloon one, my daughter is always looking for an excuse to buy a princess balloon!

You know what?!?!? Now that I think about it, the 2 times we stayed at OKW we never had a problem with the rooms being cool enough. However, we drove from Virginia both of those times and we bought balloons because we knew that we could take them home without much hassel ... I think that must have done the trick! :thumbsup2

I had saved these instructions from a previous thread. Haven't actually tried them myself. We hated coming back to a stuffy room and then even found that it would get stuffy during the night when no one had been moving around so I didn't want to lose these! :goodvibes Hope they work!

Press the power button and the down arrow button simultaneously. The letters "bp" should appear in the display indicating you are in "bypass" mode. Then you can use the up/down buttons to set the temperature. You may have to do this every 24 hours or every few days.

The sensor by-pass for our kind of thermostat was simple--I just pressed the "off" button and both the temperature "up/down" buttons all at the same time. "BP' appears in the thermostat, and then it operates as most other themostats in most other hotels in the US

And yet another:

The thermostat has two buttons on the left (ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN) and two buttons on the right (UP and DOWN)

1) Press the ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN buttons together. The digital display will change to 'CA'.

2) Press the ON/OFF and DOWN button together. The digital display will change to 'OR" (or something similar).

You have just deactivated the motion sensor. This will last for three days at which point you will have to repeat the process.

TO CHANGE AC THERMOSTAT SETTINGS THE THERMOSTAT HAS TO BE PUT INTO "SERVICE MODE" IT IS SIMPLE TO DO BY PRESSING THE FOLLOWING KEYS ON THE FRONT OF THE THERMOSTAT.

EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE:

1. PRESS (AND KEEP PRESSED) THE F/C KEY

2. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. PRESS (AND RELEASE) THE DISPLAY KEY.

4. RELEASE THE F/C KEY.

UPON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THIS SEQUENCE, THE LCD WILL DISPLAY PAR (PARAMETER) AND THE PARAMETER NUMBER.

1. PRESS THE UP ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL # 6 APPEARS. (NEW MODELS # 24)

2. PRESS THE OFF/AUTO KEY

3. THE CURRENT LOW TEMPERATURE IS DISPLAYED.

4. PRESS THE DOWN ARROW KEY AND SCROLL UNTIL THE DESIRED ROOM
TEMPERATURE APPEARS
5. PRESS THE F/C KEY

We've never had a problem with the unit getting hot & sticky, the AC just works for us. We've stayed in SSR, OKW, BCV, BWV & WLV so its not just the places we stay.

The below instructions have worked for me at SSR and AKV. :goodvibes You can also call the desk and ask for maintenance to come by and disable it for you. My family finds it difficult to sleep through the night when the room gets warm because there has been no motion. I also tested the balloon theory and it did not work for me! Good luck!:)

This is what we usually do and it works.:thumbsup2 No need to reset the bypass code every couple of days.

We agree that there are sensors. I haven't had any luck with the override directions or the balloon. I have lots of luck with calling maintenance and having them come and set it the way I want it. We need a cool (almost cold) room at night or sleep is impossible. I did have 2 maintenance guys tell me that they did not know what to do and they brought me a balloon (in fact, several). I eventually called the supervisor and he was not happy with his guys and said that they are trained to set it as needed. When going at a hot time of year, we request rooms that only get morning sun which rules out many of the pool views at BCV (we do preliminary work on other trips) but gives me a wonderful wooded setting to enjoy my breakfast on the porch in my robe! Feels like home!

I just printed off these complicated directions! I like my room cold! During the summer months I keep my A/C set to 68 degrees!

I understand folks desire to walk into a cool room after a hot day in the parks. Please remember who pays for running the air conditioning all day when we aren't in our rooms (DVC members through the dues). With the rising costs and concerns about energy consumption, maybe letting the rooms warm up during the day is really ok!

Are these things in ALL of the DVC resort rooms?
No, at OKW you set the temperature yourself, to your liking (I like it cold) and just like home when I go off to the park or leave for the day, I up the temperature to 78. It's takes a nano second to cool it off when you return.

I don't need to walk into a cool room, but I do need a cold room to sleep in. It's what we're used to at home and like others, I simply can't sleep unless it's pretty cold in the room.
I've just called maintenance to have them correct the problem because I've not had any luck trying to override the settings myself.

I hate to say this but it seems that anytime something is mentioned on these boards about comfort while staying at resorts, a more vacation type feel, additional bedding or washed bedding, etc someone mentions dues going up due to increased expenses of having these things- When we are on vacation I expect a vacation atmosphere and not have to sacrifice comfort, sanitation, or rest just to keep dues from going up- Do you really think that the dues wouldn't go up if no one kept the AC running or slept on unwashed bedding? I really don't and if anyone else wants to give up comfort or any of the other afore mentioned things that is up to them- JMO

I just saved these instructions b/c the last time we stayed at SSR, I had a hard time sleeping b/c I'd wake up during the night and the room would feel warm and stagnant. I like it chillier when I sleep. I'm not so concerend with the room during the day. Once we get back from a park, the room cools off nicely. But at night, I need to be cool and know that the air is moving. Wierd I know, but I'll be glad on our next trip that I have these directions! :thumbsup2

I totally agree. There is NO WAY that I am going on vacation and be worried if I run the A/C all day. To me, that's what a vacation is; a divergence from our normal mundane day to day lives. I do agree that in some small way my running the A/C all day will have an impact on the overall profitability of DVC, but if I was worried about paying an extra penny per point per year I probably wouldn't have become a member in the first place. Just my opinion.

.we just purchased our DVC membership and stayed at Saratoga Springs for 5 nights. I thought it was my imagination that it got so hot at night. I normally keep the thermostat at about 77 to78 and would wake up sweating and it was in the 80's, then, when I moved to check it, the air conditioner kicked on. Mystery solved, thank you very much!!

Hey, Don't forget too that most units won't let the A/C run when the patio or balcony door is open... regardless of what the motion sensor says.
