? about teacher's comment to dd???

Honestly, did anyone really get the impression that the teacher was making a huge, big deal out of it? If he was, he could have taken this to another level and told the principal that there was an attendance issue. He does have the authority to do so as teachers are the ones who report attendance to the administration. Doesn't sound like he did.

IMO, sounds like he was poking a bit of harmless fun and maybe just wanted to open the door to asking her how it went and what it was like. We will never know because the OP didn't even pen the conversation to find out why he made the remarks he did.

Sheesh, some people act like he was interrogating the child and getting in the family business in an extremely personal way. This could have turned into a nice 'get to know the teacher better' conversation with only a very small amount of openness from the OP. I see it as an opportunity lost rather than a horrible teacher experience. JMHO.

Exactly. I fail to see how a teacher making a comment to a student or parent in a situation like this has been turned into some massive school-conspiracy to take away the rights of parents. I don't think anyone has suggested that teachers have the right to tell parents how to raise their children. I see this as more of a "mountain out of a molehill" situation.

To clarify,

In this situation, I do not think that the teachers comments were too awfully bad. I think almost everybody here agreed that the OP should just let it blow over and not mention it. :goodvibes

This has always been my view of the initial matter... It was stated very plainly in my initial post to this thread. (Which I later copied to re-iterate... Which I am having to re-iterate once again.)

Nobody here is saying that this particular teacher is part of any big conspiracy.

I think this thread has gone well beyond the little incident posted by the OP. There are those here who have defended a teachers overall right and obligation to have say-so and to ask questions and to pass judgment.

There are teachers who have stated that this kind of thing is part of their obligation and their rights as teachers. There are teachers, and parents, who are promoting this kind of accountability to the school.

It is not just parents saying that teachers seem to feel this way. There have been teachers here who have defended, and even exhibited, this type of behavior.

I believe that this is the first time I have seen the word 'conspiracy' used here. How can you say this is parents calling 'conspiracy', when it is some teachers, and yes, some parents, demonstrating this attitude to be a reality? :confused3

At first I thought the OP was guilty of pulling her daughter out of school simply to get Oksana's autograph, but then she mentioned the nebulizer. Sometimes it's just easier to keep the kid at home or with you when he or she needs regular treatments than to rely on the nurse or office staff to be responsible for them. Plus, if your kid has asthma and gets a treatment, she can be good to go for a few hours. She might not be breathing perfectly, you might have to keep a good eye on her, you might have to take the nebulizer with you if you leave the house, but she's probably ok to stand in line for an autograph. If the kid's asthma was bothering her, the mom probably did the teacher and staff a favor by taking her out of school, wherever they ended up.

I would just let it blow over at this point, but I would have confronted the teacher when he first made the comment.

I also don't think he was out of line. This is just at my house but if you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick to do anything else. Particularly since your dd showed up in the newspaper, I can understand him saying something to her about it.

Kind of like calling in sick to work and then being caught on video catching a ball at the big baseball game.

I totally agree with this 100%.
