Hello fellow dissers, my family is going skiing in Durango Spring Break. We have never been to Durango, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. We are staying in a Edelweiss Condo at the Durango Ski Resort (Purgatory). We have never skied before, but we are going with friends who have skied, but they have never been to Durango. Going will be me, DH, DS16, DD13, and DD11 are friends and their 3 kids b15, g14, and g8. We were planning on going to WDW for Spring Break, but our friends ask us to go skiing and my DS16 really wanted to go. I of course would rather be going to WDW, but I know my DS is growing up so fast, I really want to do something he really wants to do and the girls are also excited about skiing. So we arrive March 21 and depart the 25th, we will be skiing 3 days. TIA

yeah what are the questions?? my dh went last year and skied durango and really enjoyed it.. we are waiting till the kids are at least 9 and 11 before we take them out there and he is beyond excited for that too happen;)

What kind of questions do you have? I live in CO and have been to Durango multiple times.

Basically just would like to know any good restaurants, have you stayed at Edelweiss. It says ski in, ski out but from the map it looks like that would be on a black and we are not ready for a black :scared1: But it is hard to tell from the map. Should we rent skis on the mountain or is there a better place in town. Also we want to stop for groceries before we get there, any suggestions on where. TIA

I don't have any sking tips... as I've only been to Durango in the summer..

But, I have to say, my family just *loves* Durango. We have a train lover (DS12), and we go, just to see the train. Then, we drive up to Silverton (We have taken the train before too)

Such beautiful country. :cloud9:

I don't know anything about skiing but I lived near Durango for many years. For groceries, there is the City Market and an Albertson's, I believe. Durango has many excellent restaurants--I'm fond of The Red Snapper, Steamworks Brewery, and a great Mexican restaurant on Main Street that I'm blanking on the name. :lmao:

Hope you have a great trip--Durango is a lot of fun with quirky little shops and great restaurants.

Are you thinking of Francisco's Restaurant and Cantina? I really recommend that one. On Main Street not far from the train station.

here's a few in addition to the ones already mentioned

There is a new Irish pub in town too - on Main Street that is very good- The Irish Embassy
