My hubbie is a disabled veteran. Is he able to get reservations at Shades of Green? If not, does the person who's paying for the room actually have to stay there? My father-in-law is retired from the military and now works for the Department of Defense. If hubbie isn't able to stay there due to being a vet, would his father be able to make reservations and pay for it?

Thanks in advance!

I thought any vet could stay there. Why not call and find out. Their phone is: (888) 593-2242

The website is: http://www.shadesofgreen.org

according to the eligibility page on their website ( http://www.shadesofgreen.org/service.htm ) the following are eligible (but I would call and ask them if I were you):

The only veterans who are eligible (from reading over the list) are those who are 100% disabled. My hubbie is only 20% disabled. He didn't retire so he doesn't qualify for that either. I might give them a call anyway, but I have a feeling they're going to repeat what their eligibility rules state. Too bad...my hubbie would have loved staying in a hotel filled with servicemen and women. Would have made him feel at home!

Thanks for posting that info!

As you mentioned in another post, since your husband is only 20% disabled, no, he is not eligible.

However, your FIL is eligible as a DoD employee. The rate would be based on his GS pay grade. Yes, he can make a reservation for you (he's allowed 3 rooms under his name), but he must be there with you. So, if you can talk him into a vacation..... :)

He needs to be active duty or retired DoD. Or civilian DoD employee. Shades of Green is operated by the Dept of Defense, not the Dept of Veterans Affairs. Two different organizations. I know, I work for VA.

My husband is 100% disabled veteran (not retired) and we stay at SOG often when visiting WDW. I was told eligibility was available to 100% P&T (permanent and total) disabled vets. Our rate is quite good too.

My husband is 100% disbled veteran too and the main thing they needed was an ID card (Which we have) when we checked in.
