My dd is in 8th grade. She has a very strict advanced science teacher. He doesn't know we are going to DW yet. She will miss three days of school and her principal has excused her absenses.

What I would like to know is if anyone has any great ideas for a science project/report she could do. I was hoping when she told him she would be gone she could also tell him about the project she would do for him.

The only thing that I can think of is The Land at Epcot. It has the place where they grow the vegies in the air!

Thanks

Maybe you could take the "Behind the Seeds" tour of the Land.

AT AK, could you try to observe an animal procedure?

Hydroponics is the growing of plants in the air, there are soooo many cool things that she could do with that. There is a restaurant at The Land called Garden Grill where eveything there is made on site (save the meats of course) The Land is also a major supplier of food to the property at large. There is a big debate about carbon offsets and buying organic not only being healthier for your body but healthier for he environment as it doesnt have to travel great distances to your table. YOu could have her compare organically grown foods (such as she would find in the land) to that of what you would find in a local chain grocery store. It begs the question: Is having strawberries out of season really worth it?

What about Universe of Energy, studying how fossil fuels and renewable fuel sources impacted your travels? Not only that but figuring how much energy would need to be used to light up Main Street or Spaceship Earth in the evenings. (Disney World has it's own power station just so they don't drain local sources.)

You could have her compare the impact from buring fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) versus renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or water.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends is another great venue where she can both learn about aquatic life and maybe also do a project on how coral reefs are formed! The Seas also house fresh water species and she could show how these different types of animals must cope with an ever changing environment.

Let us know how it goes! And best of luck!

DS did the YES program last year. I'd suggest looking it up to see what they do. I remember DS doing a water in glass test on BTM and they rode SM with the lights on and off.
He's a boy so I'm sure he will not remember most of it.
