We recieved a free night stay at Marriott's Grande Vista. We are staying there 10/23-30. We are thinking about going down on the 22nd if I can get our flights changed.

My question is.....our original flight time was changed and we were notified by mail. The change wasn't that big, but I thought that I read somewhere on these boards that if the airline changed your flight times that the ticket holder was able to make changes to their flight schedule without penalty. Is this true?

I would really like to go down a day early if we are able to, but I don't think that DH will pay the extra $$$ if the airline charges us. So I am trying to get around the penalty. Any suggestions?

We are flying USAir.

Thanks,
Melissa

Generally if the change is greater then 90 minutes to two hours (varies by airline) you can request a refund and rebook. (10 minutes won't get it for example)

Normally (varies by airline) if flight schedules change by more than about an hour you are allowed one free change, that is no fees and no fare increase. Have some replacement flights in mind when you call. If you do a refund and rebook, the new fare could be higher.

On Delta (incl. Song) and a few other airlines, your seat assignments may be wiped out. You need to call and re-request seats which also "accepts" the schedule change if you did not request a different flight as well.

If you are actually changing the day, then no, they won't let you for less than 90 minutes.

Less than 90, you may change to another flight for the same day only. So if you had a 1pm flight, they change it to 1:30, then you could change to an earlier flight that day (maybe they have one at 11). But they won't let you change the date for something so minor.

Sorry, you'll just have to pay the penalty.

What a bummer! Oh well, it was worth a shot. I ended up calling USAir and they told me $100 per ticket. Guess we will just have to suffer and go on time versus a day early.

Thanks for all of your responses!
