If I purchase a resale with a different use year and different home resort than I already own:
1. If I want to book my trip and use all of my points at only one of the resorts ( I understand the 7 month booking window would have to be used), do I have to make a transfer of points from one contract to the other?

2. If different resorts but both were the same use year, would it count as a transfer?

3. If different use years but the same resort, would it count as a transfer?

What I'm trying to get at is if I don't get the same resort or use year, am I going to have to constantly be transferring points to myself? :confused3

Hopefully the fab folks on this board are not as confused as me.

As long as you have a single membership you do not have to transfer. You can have different resorts within a single membership but you cannot have different use years within a single membership. For example, we own at OKW and BWV and have 7 different contracts. But they are all the same use year and I made sure to request when we did add-ons that they be within our single membership number. So when I make reservations I can use any of my points with no worries about transfers as long as I am at 7 months. Like you, we did NOT want to worry about transfers between our contracts nor about different banking windows, so we only did add-ons for our Oct. use year. Good luck!

They can simply make ressies under each contract/use year for a certain amount of days and then link them all together.

This is what I have done with my and DH's contracts. We have 3 different use years but have not had any issues doing this 7 months out.

Althought discouraged by most guides because banking dates can be confused, they will sell you a different use year under the same membership. You just have to assure your guide you can keep it all straight.

I have two use years with the same resort. Therefore I have two member numbers. It is true that you can book some days on one number and other days on the other number and then link them. However you'll often end up with a handful of points in each account. The transfer rules seem to vary. At one point it was easy to transfer points between contracts. Then the one transfer rule a year was enforced and I had to be very careful. Remember you can't transfer banked or borrowed points (or you can't bank or borrow transferred points -- even that seems to be unclear.) Currently they are saying if it's the same person you can transfer at will, but who knows if that will change again. So I keep a detailed spreadsheet and make sure I book exactly what and where I want. If I had it to do over again I would have one member number for all my points (but lots of small contracts under that number).

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the info, I have an April UY at BWV and have been looking for small resales to add on, but not seeing anything in my price range for my UY at BWV. With this information in hand, I think I will just have to be patient :coffee: and wait for my UY or if it gets too long I'll just add on directly through disney.

It's the waiting that'll do you in, isn't it?

If you buy anything resale, you will get new member number that is separate from existing number even if the resale has same use year as you already have. Thus, the points don't just combine when trying to reserve -- you would still need to transfer from one to the other or use one contract to book some nights and the other other nights. If you add-on from Disney, the add-on will be in the same member number/use year you already have and the points just combine for purpose of reserving.

Actually this is not true. I have added-on once through Disney and 5 times through resale. ALL of my points are under one membership number. Just make sure to request this.

I don't know of them selling a different UY for less than the minimum new purchase but one time so I think the answer is they will not do this unless you buy an additional 160 points currently.

DVC will usually, but not always, combine the same use year into one master account with resale. If they mess up and don't initially, they will not fix it later. The registration must be exactly the same for all parties. You can't add your adult children on one but not the others and have them combined.

One can make separate reservations and link them. They might or might not allow transfer of orphaned points to complete a single night of a reservation. In the past they have including banked and borrowed points but this occurs on a case by case basis.

I would not want the hassle of different use years. We have bought resale and direct, but always the same use years, and until we got the final information regarding the resales, I was always concerned that somehow the scenerio that Dean described, not being under the same master contract COULD happen.

Not too long ago Doc described not initially getting a GV at HH for one night because of a little something that was different with the accounts from which the points were to come. Bad things do happen in ordinary circumstances, I don't want to make my membership more complicated than it has to be.

Some say managing 2 UY is easy, use checkbook type of system. Fine...that's not for me. I have never read of any time that Disney combined 2 UY under a single contract. Why don't you call them?
