?? about one year olds and ride restrictions..

We are planning to take our newest little one to WDW Christmas 2006- for family pics at MVMCP- anyway- I was just curious because it's been a long time since we've been to WDW with a little bean of a toddler-

Are there any ride restrictions for a one year old to ride??? - of course the baby wouldn't ride any mtns. or stitch for example but PP, HM, PoC and so on are family rides so what are the requirements? Shoes?, ability to sit up unaided?? I would be holding the baby next to me on the seats as I'm sure that lap babys are not permitted on the rides??!

Anything that doesn't have a height restriction is OK for a baby.
Here's a link to the DIS site's height calculator.
Most rides it's fine to have a baby on your lap; you can make a decision when you see what the ride set up is, but usually you can hold the baby.

Thanks Sue- we're pretty sure of which rides we would be comfortable taking little bean on but weren't sure of any restrictions on WDW's part- we've been to WDW every other year for almost 12 years now but our "youngest" is 10 now and it's been a long time since we took a baby! -so I haven't paid any attention to the ride rules so to speak for little ones. Thanks again- I didn't remember any trouble over the babies riding the family rides with us on previous trips.

The only thing I've noticed with our 16 month old, is to be careful when the bar lowers. Sometimes I'll place him on the seat 'til the bar lowers, then place him on my lap.

we are leaving in 5 days with our 1 year old (12 months) and she will go along on all the rides that has no height restriction!

Gosh- I forgot about the bars lowering- yep- got to watch out for those. We can't wait to go- this was a "surprise" baby and we couldn't be happier. I "thought" that I had the flu- I'm 41 years old and thought I was done with the baby years! The doctor said your flu will clear itself up in about 9 months - you could have picked me up off of the floor- my Dh almost fainted- I didn't call but had a giant smiley face balloon sitting in his office with a white pacifer tied to the string- it took him a few seconds before he saw the paci but when he did he broke out in grins and said- "who is pregnant?"-

I looked at him in disbelief and asked him what he wanted to name this one then it hit him and he had to sit down -still grinning. It took him about 5 mins to speak he was so overwhelmed- I was a little taken back but when he spoke he was full of questions- asked if it was a boy or girl- I told him it was only a few weeks along and not big enough at that time to tell yet!

So, anyway, we are really excited to have another blessing given to us and are looking forward to our newest little one's first trip!

Very funny, and congrats! Our 'surprise' is 13 months old now, and getting ready for her first Disney trip next month...and the surprises just keep on coming. We found a few months ago that she will be an 'Irish twin'. So, for the second time my DW will be pregnant at Disney. Oh well, the more the merrier. Having older children in the house, epecially a 13 yo girl makes having babies so much easier!

WOW- it's raining babies at your house! Two surprises in a row- you are blessed- my DH and I would just fall over! Our little one will have 10 and 12 year old brothers to help care for him/her- believe it or not, for some strange reason they are jockying for position for changing diapers?? Just wait until the first solid deposit- I bet they run like little mice!

we took our dd 14 months to WDW when she was 3 months then again when she was 6 months. We are leaving tomorrow for two whole weeks in WDW. On all of our trips we took her on every ride that was not restricted. She was very happy the whole trip. I hope she likes everything this trip!

I'm so amazed at the number of little surprises! We welcomed a little girl into our home 4 months ago, her brothers who are 15 and 13- were quite shocked, of course, so were we. We skipped the Disney parks this summer because she was only 8 weeks old but next June here we come...can't wait!!! My DH who has not been to the Disney parks in the summer for 5 years is willing and ready to go now that there is a little one again. All the boys in the house are in love with the .

daydreamer its impressive they are even discussing changing the diapers. My 15 and 13 yr old boys adore their new sister rock her, walk her, play with her, help bath her..........but diapers are a no go. They help with so much though I really don't mind. Good Luck!!!!! If you have a girl I'm considering a support group for those of us who had girls later on, I can't seem to control my shopping for her between gymboree and baby lulu my DH has about grounded me from shopping. I have been that bad.. ..so many cute things!

Okay, I'm another one with a surprise girl after 2 boys. Dear sons were 12 and 9 when she was born. Want to know something funny?!?! We're talking about #4 so she's not an "only" child in a couple of years. Besides the numbers work out better for rides in Disney. No "odd man out" on the rides.

Oh and the clothes thing...forget it!!! Let the shopping begin!!!!!

Back to the OP, Do all of you ride Stitch and Haunted Mansion with the little ones? My DD will be 18 months. I even remember Pirates being dark and scarry. The youngest kid we have taken was my DS when he was 2.5, but he was fearless!!! Always has been, I assume always will be. When we went with my sister and her 9 month old, I don't remember what we took him on. I do remember her leaving Tough to Be a Bug and a couple of other things because of the noise level. Love to see what opinions are on this!!

The last time I took a baby was when my 9 YO-DSwas 9 months old and his big brother was almost three YO-in 1996 . He rode everything except the mountains, coasters and TOT. He didn't know enough to be scared of the sights and I ran a home daycare, so noise was never an issue for him. HM, POC and so on were fine for him. This one should not be "noise" frightened as it hears the piano from me, the trumpet from my DH and 9 YO-DS and the violin from the 11 YO-DS as well as a barking dog all the time. I always put my babies to sleep in the main family room, where I was most of the time, as they were both on SIDS monitors and I wanted them close, so the TV, phone and so on didn't bother them at all.

We rode/saw stitch last June and I would say it isn't for the young- not only is it dark and loud but people/kids screamed during the show just playing around but it caused a few pre-schoolers, apparently they met the height restrictions, to cry - you have to sit in individual seats so no holding and comforting allowed. I wouldn't do it with a 18 month old.

Get her ready for POC by telling her that they have a slide just like the playground and act like it's the best thing that ever happened to you - "here we go weeeee that was fun! " Good Luck!

We just took our 1 yr old for her first trip, and the only things she didn't ride were the rides with height requirements.
Might I suggest taking along a sling? Might be a newer thing in popularity since your last baby, but it was soooo helpful riding Disney buses and trains, waiting in lines after parking the stroller, and riding on rides in which I wanted her to be secure. I mostly wear her on my hip with the sling around her, but sometimes she is asleep in a cradling position. (And sometimes it comes in handy when she decides that a dark ride is the perfect place to nurse. )

[Our 1 yo was a bit of a surprise also, as our next oldes was only 8 mo., and I was having some health problems, and pregnancy was the last thing I expected them to say. It was a good diagnosis though, and all my problems resovled themselves with the pregnancy! ]
