Hello,

we will not be urchasing the grund transfers from Disney (need to get to ship early to try and change dining, as well as the fact that our flight home is after 8pm, so we'll need a car).

DCL website says onboard checkin is only for guests who purchase ground transfers...however my newly-received passporter guidebook mentions that all guests may use the service. Does anyone know if this is true?

tks!

The onboard check in service is for guests who have purchased transfers at least one way thru DCL.

I noticed that discrepancy in the Passporter book also, but according to everyone on the board, we cannot use the onboard airline check in unless Disney transfers are purchased.

Passporter is incorrect. You must have at least one leg of DCL transfers booked (most obvious choice is the return leg to the airport) and/or have booked DCL air. If you booked your own air then you must have one leg of transfers booked AND be on one of the participating airlines.

Here is the link to DCL site about it.

We just used this service last month and it was awesome. We booked a one way car rental from the airport to the port (Thrifty was the cheapest even with the drop off fee) and then had the return leg of the trip booked with DCL transfers at $35 pp. Well worth the convenience of not having to claim our luggage in ther port terminal after we disembarked. We just left it outside our cabin on Friday night and claimed back at our home airport. Walked off the ship and to the DCL bus with just our carryons....

You only have to book one leg of the trip so if you wanted to use other means of transportation to the ship you still can...just booke the one-way transfer with DCL on the reutrn to the airport!!!:thumbsup2

Wait...just reread your post....if your flight is after 8:00 pm on day of departure you may not be able to use the service at all.....I think your flights have to be by a certain time to use the service. I do know you cannot use the service if your flight is before 11:25 am and I think they have restrictions on how LATE your flight can be as well. Plus the service is only for domestic flights.
