I've been watching prices for SW...and typically we fly out of Midway. However, the early morning flight is just not dropping. So I checked Milwaukee's prices and right now I can get round trip for about $260.

I've never been to Milwaukee's airport...is it easy to get around? We'd do a park and stay at a hotel the night before...so wouldn't have to drive there. But I'm just nervous that I know Midway so well...will Milwaukee be any different? Crowds, etc?

Thanks for any insight!

It's been a few years since I flew out of Milwaukee (since we've since moved to Texas) but I remember it being a very easy to navigate airport. We usually used O'Hare when we lived in IL so Milwaukee was a pleasantly laidback experience. I remember my husband left his sunglasses in the car and he was able to get back to the garage and back through security in next to no time. I think if you're used to Midway you'll have no trouble at all with Milwaukee.
I expect that construction they've been doing around Milwaukee is still ongoing [I have a friend who lives there who complains about it], so it's good to be informed. The airport's website looks pretty good and it should help http://www.mitchellairport.com/

We've flown out of Midway and O'Hare. However, Milwaukee is by far the easiest to navigate. Especially if you're doing a park & ride hotel. We live in a Milwaukee suburb and fly out of the airport with the best price. A few years ago it was always Midway, but for the last 2 years Milwaukee has always been quite a bit cheaper. We almost always fly Southwest.

The only trouble we've ever had was this past October when we had the first SW flight out for the day to LGA. We assumed little old MKE wouldn't be that busy for a 6am flight and we weren't checking bags, so we thought we'd get there 45 min. before the flight. BIG MISTAKE! Security line was extremely long and we ended up being "those people" who walk past the whole line and talk to security and get through ahead of everybody else because now their flight is boarding. Believe me, we'll never make that mistake again. In the past we always have arrived at least an hour and a half prior to the flight and that's what we'll do from now on!

MKE is a small airport.
not a crowded place like midway or ohare is.

i used MKE for my last trip to orlando and flew back in to MKE late sunday night.

the construction is completely over.
you can get on 94 without the detour they had in the summer.

garage parking was raised to $12.50 a day in case you want to park there.
the offsite parking is half the price. the shuttle runs about every 20 minutes.

i flew Southwest, booked with them but the return flight was on Air Tran.
both counters are side by side at MCO and MKE.

i got the flight for $138 going down to orlando and $111 for the return two days ago. i booked mid september for the january flight.
i kept rechecking up to christmas and saw that the prices kept increasing for my dates.

$260 is a good price rt.
I have seen the sw prices as high as $285, but it depends on which flight you choose to make it that high.

i only use ohare or milwaukee when i go to orlando.
midway is my least favorite airport.

don't worry, it is a small airport.
easy to find your way around there.

The Milwaukee airport is very easy to navigate and none of the long security lines. If you are coming directly from Chicago, you can take Amtrak from Union Station right to the airport for about $24 per adult (less for kids). It takes about 1.5 hours and runs about 10 times a day. Very convenient and we will be doing that for our February trip.

We live in Kenosha so we fly out of Milwaukee, Midway and O'Hare, depending on price/timing/location, whether or not we're using SW, etc. If none of those things were a factor, I would pick Milwaukee hands-down, every time. It is such an easy, uncrowded airport compared to the other two. Depending on the time of your flight, you may just want to skip the hotel altogether and park in the cheapo lot at the airport. Someone else said the shuttle runs every 20 minutes but I have flown out of Milwaukee SO many times and we have never waited for the shuttle for more than 5 minutes. In fact, I doubt we have ever waited 3 minutes.

We are flying Milwaukee-Orlando in February and I booked a while ago but the flights were cheap. I've been watching them recently (always try to save a buck or two) and they've been fluctuating greatly so keep an eye for a few days and you can probably get a good deal. Good luck!

We have laid over in MKE a few times and it's a very small, easy to navigate airport. We love Midway...find that very easy, too, but MKE definitely is easier.

Thank you so much for your responses!

I went ahead and booked from Milwaukee!! And I've already booked the hotel. The hotel is SO MUCH cheaper than the cheapest we looked at in Chicago! So excited for our upcoming trip!

Thanks again!
