We're planning on flying standby on an earlier flight with Southwest Airlines. Would it be okay to fly on an earlier flight not on the reservation?

if you're talking about going to MCO, it should be fine with DME. if you're talking about leaving WDW, DME is scheduled based on your departure time, so I would advise finding an earlier flight and telling DME that's the flight you'll be on.
