I am fairly new to all of this and have a quick question. Is HHI resorts open to everyone or just DVC members? Planning a vacation and not sure what to do. We have done 2 cruises and our looking for something on land but not a theme park.

Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort is a DVC resort, but also has plenty of cash availability for other guests (just like at all other DVC resorts).

You can reserve thru DRC using the regular Disney phone number. At this time there are also some great discounts at HH available for those with the Disney VISA card.

Good luck! :)

Yup, it's available to everyone, just like the resorts at WDW are. But some people don't even know about it. I never knew of its existence until we went on the sales tour. Actually, that's one of the reasons I was able to convince DH to join DVC. He'd always wanted to go to Hilton Head, and when I said I'd like to try it after seeing it on the resort tour, he thought that was just great. Shhh! He thought you had to be a DVC member to go there and this would be his only chance.

So, now you know. :goodvibes

Considering your criteria for the trip, I think this is the right resort.

Here is the HHI lovers/info thread that can provide a lot of info and insight.

We go to HHI 3 or 4 weekends a year. Love it for a relaxing time (OK, but not great for kids IMO). Go for the food and shopping. Much better beach resort than Vero, agian my opinion. Excellent cast members - definitely Disney!

If you're looking at using cash rather than DVC points, which is what it sounds like, why would you limit yourself to the few off property DVC resorts?

I am just looking at all my options. I want a resort that has something for everyone. It will be me, DH, our kids ( 14 and 12) and my Dad. DH is Navy and deployed right now on a ship so another cruise is out:mad:. We are not park people so WDW is not an option but love the Disney touch.

In part it depends on the length of trip you're looking at and where you want to go as well as when. For HH I'd look at either renting a condo or one of the top Marriott's which are OF. There are so many more options than simply the DVC resorts of HH & VB. In most cases other top options will give you more than those 2 resorts will at a better price. There are simply a ton of options. Maybe Branson or Gatlinburg would be a good choice. Possibly even a top Orlando resort that has good pool and activity options would be OK for you. Email me directly and I can give you further suggestions rather than getting too far from the cVC options on this thread.

If you are looking for a resort with the Disney touch, I'd really suggest the HH Disney resort due to the wonderful recreation staff and the activities available for guests of all ages (adults included).

I would steer away from private condos and Marriott's (even "top") if the Disney touch is a consideration. Branson and Gatlinburg resort, while in nice destinations, will fall even further from any Disney touch.

You can't go wrong with a Disney resort if the Disney touch is an important consideration.

Good luck with yoru decision! :)

That's just it, I don't feel that either HH or VB exude a true Disney touch even though they're very nice resorts overall, I know you disagree. Plus many of the other resorts I was thinking about have far more amenities and recreational options (Marriott's I mentioned, Big Cedar Wilderness Club as examples). If one is looking with cash, a whole world of possibilities open up.

I'll stick with my opinion that there are no Marriotts or privately owned condos at HH with ANY sort of Disney touch. IMO, the DVC resort - even though it's not on the beach (although being on a private island in the tidal marsh is still pretty spectacular in my mind) - it still has the best recreational staff and programming of any resort at HH and I consider that to be part of the Disney touch, in addition to the Hidden Mickey's all around the resort and in the theming inside the villas. Even Shadow, the resort mascot, has the Disney touch with a very creative backstory with the history of the resort.

As for Galtinburg and Branson, as nice as those locations may be, there are no resorts there with ANY Disney touch. When someone comes to a Disney website looking for information about a DVC resort, I think it's very appropriate to provide the information they requested. IMO, TUG would be a better site for information about other resorts at HH, Gatlinburg or Branson since the focus of this site has always been (and still is) the Disney Vacation Club.

YMMV.

There are a wide variety of beautiful and fun resorts for cash, and Dean named a few ideas. My favorite resort in my experience is Enchantment Ranch in Sedona, Arizona.

When I am paying cash, I usually look outside of Disnney (except this year we stayed at HHI resort on cash for 4 nights on our way back to Maryland after a long WDW vacation). However, if I want the Disney touch, I will plan a Disney vacation at Vero, HH, or WDW.

We have a lot of points and we love taking our grandchildren to Disney, but there are other places, experiences, and resorts. Just don't look for Disney except in a Disney resort.
