I have a few questions regarding flying out of philly. We are leaving dec 8 at 9:35 am on US Airways.

1) What time should we arrive at the airport?
2) How long does check-in take?
3) Are we allowed to play with a Gameboy on the airplane?
4) I believe we are allowed to bring a carry-on as well as a personal item such as a backpack/purse. My ? is can a backpack be considered a carry-on? That way I can bring both a purse and a backpack on the plane?

HI we are also flying out on the 8th but a little later in the day. My suggestions for your quesitons::

They are now saying to arrive 2 hours before your flight. I would follow this, especially if you are flying USAIR which can get very busy. At worse if you do this you will have some extra freetime. Better safe than sorry. There is a shopping concouse between terminal's B and C that has some neat shops and a good food court. Just make sure you allow enough time to go past security to get to your flight.

Check-in can take from 10 minutes to over an hour. It really depends on how busy the airport is. You are once again allowed to have curbside check-in for your luggage. I would do this if you can. You will have to ask, i think the new security may require you to get boarding passes at a regular check in window even if you have checked your bags.

USAIR will allow the gameboy except during takeoff and landings.

A backpack=a carry-on, many people use them.

Have fun.

1. No later than 7:35 am, that id AFTER you park the car. In other words, be inside the terminal by 7:35.

2. It can take a few minutes, it can take an hour. Have your IDs ready, have luggage tags on. The best thing to do is use curbside checkin for the bags. The hold up is with security checks, so the less carry on you have the better off you are. Make sure no one has any non-esential metal in their pocket (ie coins, keys, etc.)

3. Yes, but not during take off and landing. Just listen to the FA's announcements.

4. A backpack and purse are fine.

We just flew out of PHL on 11/27, our flight was for 5:30pm, we got at the airport at 3:00 because we left the house early thinking that we would hit traffic in King of Prussia because of the road work, but we had no trouble.
we checked our luggage in curbside, no waiting at all, we went inside to the ticket counter because I had changed the time of our return flight and needed to get new tickets, the line in their was long, but they had plenty of people working at the counters so it went rather quickly.
The security line was not too bad at the entrance to the gate area, we got something to eat and the went to the gate and sat down, my daughter started working on her homework. I really did not think that the 2 hour before the flight was necessary, we had more than enough time.
My daughter took her pocketbook and her book bag, and had no trouble, there were other children playing game boys on the flight, she listened to her CD player, they only asked that you turn off any electronics during take off and landing.
