Hello all! We've never had fish & chips before: are we gonna like it?? Do you get anything on the side (dips, veggies, etc.)? Also, I know there is a stand that is CS in England, do they also serve the same fish and chips at the TS restaurant in England?
Thank you!

We just got fish and chips on the 13th of July at teh outside stand. 2 pieces and fries 8.00. Bit of a rip off in my opinion. If you like fish it was very good.
There is vinegar for fires, tartar sauce, ketchup salt and utensils. no dips or anything like that.

I am not a fish eater and I LOVE Rose and Crowns fish and chips. But it is just fish and chips. No sides. My kids loved them too. I have always eaten at the Ts never the Cs but I imagine it is the same.

I don't know if you will like it. :) The fish (cod, I think) is batter-dipped and then deep-fried. It's not a health food snack. We have always gotten it from the walk-up stand and malt vinegar is the only way to dress the fish and chips, IMO (but as a previous poster noted, there are packets of ketchup and tartar sauce available).

We tried them on our last trip and they were horrible. We are from UK and know what fish and chips are meant to be like. This was nowhere close, I don't eat fish but DH loves "chippy fish" was sorely disappointed. His words "I don't know what this is, but it aint cod." I only had chips and they were like frozen chips (yuck) and very greasy. I think the standard is slightly better from what I have read on the boards if you go inside but I couldn't say for sure.

Just an FYI ;) fish and chips are normally eaten as they come in the UK without dips etc. The only condiments people really use is salt and vinegar. Most chip shops sell mushy peas, curry and gravy to go with them but this is not what most people opt for. Some also sell pickled eggs :scared: and pies. I am from northern UK before any southerners start flaming :thumbsup2

Tartare sauce and lemon some people like on their fish as well. These are served in "posh" fish and chip places over here. If you are buying them to eat as you walk then salt and vinegar is the way to go.

DH and I never had fish and chips either but this past Oct we tried it from the CS stand in England. The fries (chips) were gross, very limp and greasy but the fish was amazing. Light and flaky and pure white and the coating was crispy and delish and not greasy. I didnt like it with malt vinegar but loved it with the tartar sauce

Thank you for all the replies!

Lamandpercy, from someone who is quite ignorant about good English food (except for my obsession with watching Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares on BBC America!!!), how much vinegar?? A sprinkling? A dousing?

We ate them in June at the CS place and we really enjoyed them. We are not big fish eaters but they were pretty good. My DH LOVED them. We were talking the other day about where we want to eat on our next trip and he said he wants to go back there for sure!

We like the fish and chips from the UK stand. We usually sparkle a little malt vingear on the fish. They also have tarter sauce if you prefer. The fish and chips have always been hot and fresh for us. We usually take them across the pathway to behind the little england stores where there are tables and chairs.

Please tell me you're joking about asking people if YOU will like fish & chips.

You cannot be serious.

I can tell you that I like fried fish fillets and french fries (which is what fish and chips are) but I have no idea if you will like them. I even like the WDW version at Epcot.

Have you never had fried fish? Even at Long John Silvers?

I personally like a little malt vinegar on mine but DH prefer dousing his with ketchup.

ETA: Before you waste $8 on them at WDW and stand in line, drive through a Long John Silvers or Captain D's at home and see if you like fried fish and french fries.

Some people may be insulted by this but I think it may be helpful to the OP.

The Fish & Chips at Rose & Crown are similar to those at Captain Ds or Long John Silvers. IMO the Rose & Crown is a superior quality, but its close enough that someone who has never had fish & chips may get some idea.

If the fish & chips is all you want, I think the CS would be the way to go. We usually go for an early supper & sit at one of the wrought iron tables across the "street" in the garden. Rose & Crown is great and we always make it for lunch, but I try something else there.

BTW, just a drop or 2 of malt vinegar is all that you need.

I'm ignorant, too. My DH is 1/2 Brit and his mother is on the top 10 of bad English cooks. Beef cooked to shoe leather, vegetables as mush. The only thing she can do that is edible is Yorkshire Pudding.

I have never seen a sentence with Good and English Food together. Thanks for the laugh.

While I do love the fish & chips at the CS in Epcot, there is also extremely good fish and chips at Cooke's at DTD, next to Raglan Road I believe. Yummy!

I just saw that Cookes had this last night when trying to figure out somewhere to eat at DTD. My DH loves fish and chips and we were planning on Rose & Crown counter service, but maybe Cookes also.

I am wondering if they are the same exact thing though!

Aw that's not fair!!! We do have some good English food!!! You sometimes have to work a bit to find it but it's there!!!
To the OP be careful when refering to the UK pavillion as England!! I feel you will have many Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish flammers!!!

Cooke's and the UK CS are not the same. I'm sure you'll get opinions on both sides as to which is better. For me, it's a matter of convenience - I'm happy with either, just depends on which is closer to where I happen to be:thumbsup2
