Is there no place to just fish for fun off the dock or something for free? You have to pay hundreds (for family of 5) to go on a boat to do fishing for a set time/etc?
If we can't do that at FW -where is the closest place we COULD just go fishing without paying a lot for an "excursion" type thing just to fish for fun for a little while?

You can fish ANYWHERE THERES WATER at the fort for free...except off of the dock!

Moreover, you can do so without a fishing license. But don't make plans to bring your filleting knife... it's all catch and release.

Okay thank you so much! I was looking (obviously not in the right places LOL) and all I found about fishing were ones that cost and were expensive! I was like uhoh... when we camp we like to just fish at random and not pay a fortune for it. LOL One of DH's least expensive hobbies... and one we can all join in if we so choose to do so.

Ive been fishing for many years(not catching, just fishing)...and my BEST fishing has been at the fort. Its the only place Ive ever been able to land a few bass.

well that's great news because the kids get kinda bored with hours of fishing and not catching anything! (DH doesn't though LOL) One time they had a great time at a place we "camped" at (DH says we can't call it camping when we are using the TT!) -they also had a place to fish (catch/release) and boy those fish were trained. We walked up to the little dock w/fence area and they were all swimming around there near the top of the water just watching us.... waiting for food. We ended up doing more feeding fish than actual fishing while there- but it was fun.
