I've read a few reports where people thought Disney was not as clean as it used to be. On our trip in November I observed 2 cast members picking up little bits of trash on the floor as they walked by. One was a holiday singer in Epcot, one was in the MK.Then we were in AK at the Restaurantasorus. I was holding my 9 month old and had my 3 yo by the hand, leaving the restaurant. A CM was walking with one hand full of trays. I noticed a napkin had fallen on the ground. I couldn't pick it up without my DD bolting and I wondered if the tray ladened CM would. Well she picked up that napkin. I have to say I was very impressed with the Disney employees this trip.

Actually the practice of everyone cleaning up has a name it is called the "Disney Scoop". Basically it means if you see something on the ground such as trash/wrappers, etc. As you walk by you can bend and grab it to dispose of it. We are all taught in traditions that it is the job of all of us to help keep the parks clean. My area manager often goes out with a pan and broom too when he is making his rounds.

I have visited Universal and have not witnessed this same attn. to detail from its employees.

Quite honestly, I don't think of it as Disney 'slipping' in cleanliness...I think its more visitors being careless and not cleaning up after themselves.

It always amazes me to see folks leave trash laying around. They wouldn't do it in their own homes/yards, so why here?

I thought the parks were ok this week, but several restrooms left a lot to be desired. I don't remember seeing dirty stalls before -- and I'm talking disgusting. Weren't there always CMs in the restrooms before? I agree that it's a matter of bad hygiene/manners on the part of the visitors, no question about it, but it seems to me that CMs were on top of things more in previous trips.

I agree with you completely. I think Disney is doing a fabulous job considering the increasing laziness of people. I am a teacher, and I very often hear children make a mess and say "The janitors will clean it up...it's their job." That type of attitude makes me irate! People want to assume someone else will clean up their messes.

I also think that patrons can help keep the place tidy...if I see a map, etc. on the ground, I am not above picking it up and tossing it in a trash can myself!

I was not at all impressed with the restrooms on my last trip compared to other visits in the past. Some of them were downright nasty. I did not notice CMs in many of the restrooms like in the past. Most notably the restroom at Pecos Bills was so bad my daughter wouldnt even use it. :crazy2:

We just returned from a 10 day trip and were at all four parks. While Christmas is the busiest and most crowded season, the parks all still seemed very clean. Even saw them bring out the street cleaning equipement a couple of times.

Having said that, the restrooms ALL seemed to be in dire need of attention every time we went in one, and it wasn't until our last two days that we ever even saw a restroom attendant in one.

DH and I also noticed the bathroom cleanliness was lacking this past trip more that others as well. One particular bathroom that sticks out in my mind is the one near space mountain in Tomorrowland. Filthy! Why is it that people can't make sure their toilet flushes??? TP all over the floors, counter top at the sinks was soaking wet with paper towels all over it.

I walked outside and DH turned to me and said- "was your bathroom as gross as mine?" You know when DH notices something is dirty it REALLY is! :rotfl2:

I think the CM's do a FANTASTIC job of cleaning! I constantly see someone with a pan broom in every park I go. The trash I see usually is some family that leaves whatever they don't want on a ledge or whatever.

I adopted Walt's legacy a long time ago @ WDW and @ home. If it's on the ground, I pick it up. Shame on those who litter anywhere but especially our sacred Disney parks :sad2:

I think the CMs do a great job!

On the bathrooms, I noticed quite a few nasty ones on our trip last April. But I never understand public bathrooms. Why do people not practice the same normal things they do at home when they are in public?

If you USE toliet paper, put the used toilet paper IN the toilet!

If you USE paper towels, put the paper towels IN the garbage!

If you USE maxipads or tampons DISPOSE of them properly!

How hard is this? Would anyone really just throw these things on the floor at home?!?!?

I know there are a lot of young kids at WDW. And I understand them making a huge mess. But wouldn't you clean up after your own child at home, and hopefully teach them how to do it themselves?

How hard is this people?!?!? Then we will all have relativly clean public restrooms!

We just got back and I have to agree. There was garbage as you waited in lines. That is just careless visitors! We saw a pair of disgusting socks one night in Splash Mountain. Figured it was someone trying to be funny - well, it wasn't. We saw napkins, wrappers and water bottles in plant areas. CM's can only keep up so much during the day - and they do a GREAT JOB! :flower: Yet if people were considerate, we all wouldn't have to look at their laziness! JMHO :hyper2:

I agree with you - but you're probably preaching to the choir here. We're the biggest bunch of people/guests who are hyper-aware of all these things and act accordingly. It's all those clueless, messy guests who need to get the word - and likely never will.

I've seen both sides. People who don't flush (why, I've never figured out!) and people who just toss trash in the bushes. Like many of us, I've picked up litter myself. Along side are the hard working CMs trying to deal with it all. They DON'T have an easy job of it.

I went it the SM one in Oct it was real bad I went into the store and made a comment to the CM and within 5 min 3 CM's went into each one.

When we first starting visting WDW about 15 yeras ago, it seemed like every bathroom had an attendant. I think this is an area that management thought they could cut back and no one would notice. Guess what , they were wrong ! All the bathrooms definitely need more attention.

We were just there from the 29th of December to January 3rd. Talk about a business time. We felt the parks and restrooms were remarkably clean, particularly given the crowds. MK was open until 4AM (EMH) and reopened at 9AM. We were there for the 9AM opening and it looked great. Kudos to all of the CMs who did such a great job.

DD13 observed that the CMs were all really nice, as opposed to some very pushy and aggresive guests...

I think if they had cut back 15 years ago, we wouldn't have noticed it because the guests were more tidy, so there was less to clean up.
I know 15 years ago, I heard moms telling their kids to make sure the toilet flushed and their toilet paper didn't end up on the floor. I also hear moms telling little boys to clean up the seat if they got it wet. Now, I'm more often hearing "don't touch anything" - even when it's those kids that made the mess.
And, you would not have seen women leaving used tampons and pads on the floor 15 years ago. People do it now though.

Why? :confused3

I totally agree with all of this, and as a teacher, I see this all the time especially with kids ( high school age) leaving garbage behind in caf and in the bathrooms, ocassionally even in my classroom! But I'm left wondering-

Why did it become "okay" to leave filth behind and expect others to clean up after you?

It just makes me sad. :sad1:

I have a completely split personality on the bathrooms/ trash issue. I firmly abide by the dont touch anything bit. I just have anxiety about bathroom germs. I ALSO, however, throw my paper/ liners into the trash/ toilet, and would never leave girly things behind :crazy2:

As far as trash goes, if I remember correctly, there are ample trash receptacles in the parks, and If I see it Ill use it, however, due to my anxiety, I wont be picking up any stray trash. Also, If I have something to throw away and there are no nearby trash cans, I WILL ditch my cup or whatever it was. (I DO try to find a trash basket first, but after a minute or 2, if none are in sight, all bets are off)

Now heres where I get in trouble. My husb the litterbug gets mad about this one. When I am at a CS rest. (at home or on vaca), unless the place is so crowded that there are ppl searching for a place to sit, I will leave my tray *with all of my trash like napkins on it* for the people who were hired to clean up to do their jobs. Thats just how I see it, and considering how my DH feels about it  , I dont expect anyone to get my point. I feel the same way, though, when he litters driveways, parking lots etc... :duck:

So if you have a piece of trash and a trashcan is not in a convenient location for you - instead of carrying your trash until you CAN dispose of it properly - you will just toss it on the ground for somebody else to pick up instead??? Real nice..
