About Disney slipping in cleanliness..

I have a completely split personality on the bathrooms/ trash issue. I firmly abide by the dont touch anything bit. I just have anxiety about bathroom germs. I ALSO, however, throw my paper/ liners into the trash/ toilet, and would never leave girly things behind :crazy2:

As far as trash goes, if I remember correctly, there are ample trash receptacles in the parks, and If I see it Ill use it, however, due to my anxiety, I wont be picking up any stray trash. Also, If I have something to throw away and there are no nearby trash cans, I WILL ditch my cup or whatever it was. (I DO try to find a trash basket first, but after a minute or 2, if none are in sight, all bets are off)

Now heres where I get in trouble. My husb the litterbug gets mad about this one. When I am at a CS rest. (at home or on vaca), unless the place is so crowded that there are ppl searching for a place to sit, I will leave my tray *with all of my trash like napkins on it* for the people who were hired to clean up to do their jobs. Thats just how I see it, and considering how my DH feels about it  , I dont expect anyone to get my point. I feel the same way, though, when he litters driveways, parking lots etc... :duck:

I guess I don't see your point. Disney's trash cans are located every 30 feet so if you don't see one in a minute or two you are either standing still or you are not looking hard enough. As for leaving your tray behind at a counter service resturant at home or away I say please rethink because the employees are not paid to throw away your trash. More often than not the next person who wishes to use that table probally ends up throwing your trash away. If you came to a counter service and there were several tables not being used but had trash all over them I think you would be unhappy that someone did not take a minute to throw their trash out. I know I would would. Please have a little consideration for others and throw your trash in the proper place.

Wait...I dont get this.. If YOU have garbage & there is not garbage can around you will just throw it on the ground? :sad2:

And you know, when I was a kid, I worked fast food. I dont remember ANYONE being hired to specifically clean up people's trash. We were hired to cook, serve & clean the resturant. No one was hired to clean up YOUR trash that YOU left on a table. :earseek:

I just dont understand how you can justify leaving your trash around for others to clean up, period!

I mean do you use the same logic at someone eles' house? After all, it is their house. So you can throw things on the floor & expect them to clean it up. It is not your house, so not your problem?

I am one of those Moms you will hear telling DS "Dont touch anything". I HATE public bathrooms. :scared: But then again, I also teach him to throw the toilet paper IN the toilet & the used paper towels IN the garbage. He is only 2.5, so I am trying to teach him early.

However I am also teaching him not to touch anything in the bathrooms. Meaning, even though it is a shame it is there, I DO NOT want my DS to touch ANYTHING on the floor of the bathroom. You just NEVER know what is in there.

Now outside, if I see some trash, a park map, or whatever, I will throw it out.

But I am not going to touch, and I dont want my DS touching a dirty diaper someone just tossed on the floor. Bodily fluids are just NOT safe to touch.

I also wash hands & use hand sanitizer after public restroom stops.

In my way of thinking, the CM are not hired to clean up my trash...they are hired to wipe the tables down and keep the dining area organized. There are more than enough trash cans for guests to easily dispose of their trash, and leave the tray on top of the receptacle where the CM can gather them up to bring them in for cleaning and re-use.

I seriously doubt they were hired to bus tables.

Yeah, only in actual restaurants (as in.. your food/drinks are brought directly to your table, and there's an actual waiter/waitress checking on you) do people get paid to clean trash from tables. In counter-service places, for the most part, NONE of the staff are paid to remove full trays from tables - they get paid to wipe the table off (that means only cleaning up your crumbs or dripped sauces, etc). I and many people I know have worked at fast food locations, such as Subway, McDonalds, and the like - and it's NOT cool when people leave their entire tray for us. Ever realize that they place a trashcan conveniently by the exit for a reason?

It's annoying and rude. These people aren't getting paid additional wages to play busboy after you.

I think I had good luck when I was at WDW in December, because more often than not there was an attendant cleaning when I visited a restroom. I was surprised by how many people apparently lack the ability to flush a toilet, and the number of people who will push a seat liner to the back of the seat or onto the floor and leave it there, rather than disposing of it properly. Perplexing, because it defies rationality that someone is concerned enough about hygiene to use one, but then leaves an unhygienic 'surprise' for the next unlucky occupant. On a higher note, I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds, so the CMs working on the days I was there were obviously working hard in those holiday crowds to create the 'magic' :flower:

Also too "if you sprinkle while you tinkle be a sweetie and wipe the seatie" :teeth: Some of us CANNOT stand and uh tinkle neither do I want to sit in others. But yes I have seen awful toilets at WDW and other places. :scared:

Yep, place looked spotless to me over Christmas, and considering the insane amount of people, that's quite a feat. Bathrooms were all clean as well.

You know, I have to laugh. You must have quite a pair to post something like this. :rotfl:

By CS restaurants i assume people mean places such as McDonalds, Buger King or at MK Pecos Bills?

If so, the bins (trash cans) all have a space on top of them to put your empty tray AFTER you have put your rubbish in the bin.

I always take my tray full of rubbish to the bin, be it in Burger King, KFC or Pecos Bills. I can't understand why anyone would be too lazy to do so.

A different matter is if the bins themselves are full and there is nobody emptying them, but i would never leave a table full of rubbish for the next customer.

A point regarding toilet attendants, it isn't a pleasent job and i would be surprised if Disney were overwhelmed with applicants for such a job. Again though, if i used a cubicle and toilet paper i wait to make sure it has flushed away before leaving the cubicle. One problem at Disney regarding this is the infra red flush systems whereby the darn toilet flushes as soon as you move and it is then difficult to get it to flush again. ::yes::

As others have said, I think it's more the guests than the CMS. I think the CMS do a great job. This problem is not just at Disney, but everywhere.

The parks seem fine to me.

It's the resorts that could use some work. As much as I love ASMovies, when I stayed there in August, I remember thinking how filthy the stairways in my building were. Looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months.

There was also a pizza box sitting on top of a trash can for 3 days before it was removed.

We were at AKL in December and their was no sign of slippage in cleanliness at AKL or all of the parks that we visited. I would think these are random instances and not a slippage.

I don't know. 95% of the time, I throw my trash away and put my trays where they go. However, I do this because I love Disney and want it to be kept as clean as possible.

There are times however, when lunchtime at the parks is beyond busy, the trash cans are all pretty much overflowing, and there's no place to put the trash. Then, I leave it on the table.

Nothing wrong with cleaning up after yourself, but there ARE in fact people hired at Disney to clean up after others.

As I said, when I have something to throw away, I will hold on to it for a min or two hoping to find a trash can. I dont think Ive ever NOT found one at WDW.

As for the CS, when I worked at a BK as a teen, I spent ALOT of time clearing and cleaning tables, and appreciated it when everything from the table was left on the tray, and the table wasnt full of food and ketchup drips. Thats what I got paid for, among other duties. If the place is crowded, I will clean up so that incomming guests have somewhere to sit, otherwise, I expect that the price I paid for whatever I ordered included the privledge of having somene clean up after me, as opposed to when I am home, or a guest in someone elses. Maybe I am the only person on earth who thinks that bussing the table is inc in the price of that $8 burger and fries, but it doesnt look like it when we eat out. We seem to be in the minority at the food courts and places like Subway, when DH wants to clear our table, but will gladly drop his soda cup in the parking lot (which I will p/u consistently)I agree we are a bit of an odd couple :hyper:

Whats that old tune? "Litter bug, litter bug shame on you".

Quite honestly, I don't think of it as Disney 'slipping' in cleanliness...I think its more visitors being careless and not cleaning up after themselves.

It always amazes me to see folks leave trash laying around. They wouldn't do it in their own homes/yards, so why here?

Agree completely. It is disgusting to see the amount of trash people leave after a parade, show, etc. Sad to say, but some people just don't care.

There is a trash can about every 20 feet in the parks so no excuse for people to not throw garbage away.

Recently, a lady sitting next to me at a Bug's Life changed her baby's diaper during the show and left the diaper on the seat. I was disgusted. Who wants to come into the next show and sit on a dirty diaper? Yuck

I think sometimes we fail to realize that time takes a toll on appearance of the park as well. There has been a weather beating lately, and it is not always trash on the ground the affects the appearance. When people compare the park to 10-15 years ago, it was spanking new then!

I have to agree on the new type of guest. (Here is when I sound like my grandparents) people used to have a sense of personal pride. We would dress up more, present ourselves with our best face forward and clean ourselves up and our surroundings too. Too many people have thrown that idea right out the window. No personal pride or responsibility whatsoever. So unfortunately I am not suprised when I see piggy looking type people leave their trash behind. I can almost pick them out before they do it. What I can't understand is the germ phobic type of person who will pee all over a toilet seat and not flush or wipe up because they may get germs. This I see way too often. Good gracious germ phobes, this is THE time where you scrub your hands AFTER you clean up your own mess! Use the sinks provided. Good grief!!

Sorry about the ranting....

This I agree on.

The leaving trays on a lunch table - I can see how that happens. Many times at lunch, the trash barrells are filled. I won't take my trash out of the restaurant to throw it away.

I dunno, cleanliness seems to be hit or miss depending where or when you look. In october, BW was spotless, but I noticed trash around the bushes at the Poly. Other times, the Poly is spotless. The parks were all in pretty good shape.

And yes, I do remember the days when seeing any trash at WDW was a rarity. Or if it was there, it was whisked away in short order. Things change.
