We will be staying at OKW in a couple more weeks, which will be our first extended stay as DVC members. When we check in, everyone in our party gets a room key card with their own name on it. We have older teen boys who we tend to let go their own way at times in the parks (while we do things with DS11), with either a planned time and place to meet (for meals, etc.) or the knowledge that they have their cell phones so we can reach each other if needed. Since we are onsite and they are old enough and mature enough to handle the buses to come back to the room on their own, there are times we may head back to the resort early and swim or rest and let them stay longer to ride more rides.

Now my question. Since they have a room key, if we set it up at check-in to allow charging to the room, can either of them use their key card to charge CS food when they get hungry (one will be 19 when we go, the other 15) since their names are on the cards and they both have ID to prove who they are? Otherwise, we would leave them with some cash for drinks/burgers, etc. or maybe get them one of those prepaid Visa cards and load it with funds that we could add to if needed.

Anyone familiar with this process or done it with their kids? TIA!

Yes, you can get the boys charging privileges. We've done it with our own DD since she was about 11 years old.

**Edited to add...I'm not sure if she ever charged food, but I know she charged a ton of souvenirs in just about every gift shop in every park!

Yup, our 17 and 15 y/o kids charged away merrily with no problems, even in the arcade. No one ever asked them for ID btw.

My kids have had charging privileges for a couple of years now and they are 14 & 11 (now). No problem at all.

Also wanted to mention, no problem with them using the DDP off on their own either. :goodvibes

With anyone staying in your villa, you can set allow charging priveleges or not allow charging for each person. Keep in mind it's a yes/no thing - you cannot set any limits if you allow them charging. Also, no id is required - so if a card is lost that has charging, whoever picks it up can use it.
