? about cat litter

I do want to try the Tidy Cat Breeze system but I'm afraid of outlaying that much money and then my cats hate it.

I went ahead and got these, I saw the sale on petsmart but they are on backorder 2-4 weeks, and shippng was over $20 for 3-6 days ground!

I got 2 of them from amazon instead - free shipping, and they had a code for an additional 15% off, plus another discount if you put it in for a subscription (which can be cancelled later)....came out to about $27 each.

fingers crossed! We tried using a natural litter in the box in my husbands office, and it STUNK. He was literally about to gag when he was working in there, so I am hoping these are as stink free as the reviews say

We scoop several times a day and dump the litter once a week and clean and bleach the box. We use S'Wheet and Feline Pine clumping since they are natural.

this may sound silly, but i was wondering what other people do....Our last cat could go outside (not by choice, he even destroyed several window screens to get out when we tried to keep him in) so the litter box was never used much, we scooped 1x midweek and changed the entire thing 1x a week

We just got 2 kittens, one for each of my kids, and the kids are in charge of the litter boxes. They are doing a great job, they scoop the boxes every single day. Since the boxes are kept well scooped, do we still change it completely once a week? How often do other people do it? It seems like a waste to just throw out a whole box of litter :confused3

We have three cats (and two litter boxes). I scoop daily (and often 2x per day), I add litter as needed, and completely change the litter about once a month. I used to do it more often, but really, there isn't any reason to.

We use this system and love love it! :goodvibes I recently though purchased the irobot for cats and we love it too! Yes it is very expensive but no more scooping and just take out a bag once a week. There is absolutely little to no smell only when we open it to take the bag out. It has a 18 month warranty and can send it back in 90 days. We paid using the 3 payments. :goodvibes

The Breeze system is so much cheaper than the electronic one that we tried. The cats hated it. I think the automatic movement scared them.

I thought about getting this, but at least one of my cats is too big for it.:rotfl:

I'm going to switch over my cat's litter soon. I have been buying the Purina Max Scoop.

My mom just told me about the kind she uses. It called the Best Kitty Litter (ever?) and is available at Pet stores.

She says it's scoopable and is sold in a huge bag. She says it has no odor and no dust.

I have an indoor cat now so I scoop at least once a day.

I have a bag of this in my trunk....I hate it! If you lived closer, I would drop it off for you.

I am not fond of it either although the felines don't seem to have an opinion. Why don't you like it? I think it smells to start off with! However, it does keep the cat's odors down.

Yep, it stinks and the consistency is weird....found a kitten on the road, picked him up, ran in petstore to get box and picked this up. Poured in, came home and promptly dumped it out. YUCK. Still carrying the almost full bag around in my trunk. If I see a car stuck in the winter, I will donate for traction.

I just looked and this is the junk I have in my husbands office
It does not help with smell AT ALL

If your kittens will take to the Tidy Cat Breeze, you will love it. It's good that you're starting them on it young since they shouldn't have much preference for any certain type of litter yet. I loved the Breeze system for decreased odor; my cats (one of the two at least) hated the pellet litter -- even going as far as to pee and poop right in the middle of my bed! He was around 10 yrs old when I tried to introduce it. The other cat used it just fine and he was around 8 yrs old, so it probably has more to do with individual cat litter preference, but better to start them out young!

Good luck!

We have 2 cats and 1 box. I scoop at least once a day and then change out litter at least every 2 weeks.

I have tried many kinds of litter.....some that have fragrance the cats will not use because the smell is not their smell and it doesn't smell like a litter box to them.

Questions:

How do you scoop?
I scoop carefully to not break clumps and scoop into a plastic double grocery bag. Then the bag goes straight out to the big trash can outside.

Where do you keep your litter box?
Ours is in the kitchen....no other place. It annoys me to be that close to my laundry.

Does your cats leave a bit of litter on ground around box?
This drives me crazy and I am forever sweeping it up.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a Litter Robot about a year and a half ago and I love, love, love it. I have three cats and I empty the bag twice a week and throw a little more litter in. I haven't fully changed the litter in over a year and there is zero odor. It is a cat owners dream come true and worth every cent.

We must have been blessed with two special cats (and very spoiled of course) :cool1: Both are strictly indoor, and used to it by now. We have two boxes, scoop them out every other day, and once a month clean the boxes out completely, hose them out in the front yard, dry thoroughly and refill with the cheap litter from Costco (forgot the brand, but it comes in a large green plastic container). Cats seem to like it - we've never had a problem. They've each adopted one of the boxes, but will occasionally use the other, just to make sure its still safe, I think!

I am having trouble with dust from litter, making me sneeze I think more than the kitten is... I bought a mask today to use, is the BREEZE system low dust ??

Nothing to do with OP question, but I just figured out something about cat litter.

My cat is very fussy and hates to go in the litter box once it has been used (even if I have removed the clump).

One day I had an empty litter box sitting next to the one with litter. She used the empty one!
It was great. I flushed it down the toilet, rinsed it out and it is ready to go for the next time.

She still uses the litter for the solid stuff.

There is no dust from the Breeze system. It's just pellets. I love it! We have 7 cats, 5 boxes. I've used the automatic litter boxes and the traditional kind (scoopable & non), but nothing has been as good as the Breeze. :)

Op-congrats on getting your kids started on a great habit and responsibility.

I have one extra large cat- he's a pixiebob and very, very finicky. He hated any type of clumping litter, kicked the feline pine right out of the covered box. I use clay- either store brand, tidy cats or fresh step. He goes out for short periods of time- didn't have a choice once he realized that the sliding glass door in our main floor master led outside- he drove us nuts until we let him out. But he comes in to use the litter box :confused3. I am glad about it so he's not leaving neighbors any surprises! He really prefers the covered box- doesn't like going in one that isn't covered. I usually scoop 1-2 a day and dump the whole thing out and sanitize weekly. When we went on vacation the first time, I bought an extra litter box and had someone come in every other day to scoop- he still only used his one box. This last time we went away for the week, I had someone come in every other day and just dump the whole bag of litter- I had prefilled 4 litter bags with fresh litter so all she had to do was dump one and replace it with the next I already prepared.

Hi Jessica -

How many of those Breeze pads do you go through and what's the monthly cost (if you don't mind)?

Love love love this system. It is wonderful how much cleaner the house stays without the cloud of litter dust flying everywhere. I totally recommend this for every cat owner.
