I have been reading posts about DVC for the past few weeks trying to decide if DVC would be for us. I have to say this site has so much great info. & everyone is so helpful. One of the questions I have is do you get any special perks or goodies from Disney when you join through them? I saw on an earlier post about the membership backpacks & was just wondering. I know the other timeshare companies are always trying to give you all kinds of stuff to buy though & just thought I'd ask. Also I know you can negotiate on prices through a resale company but what about when buying through Disney? Do they ever go down in price or offer you park tickets or something? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I have all the info before I make a decision. Thanks everyone.

Others can chime in as well, but here's a start.

Only perks are things like the backpack, a lithograph (???), and the standard benefits offered to all DVC members. I've heard mention of people being able to apply their hotel stay costs to DVC perchases, but I know nothing specific. There are also sometimes 'per point' discounts and Magical Beginnngs buy-backs.

DVC is selling so well that they are expanding Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa - they have no need for annoying salespeople or "3 free nights" deals.

No negotiation with Disney. Prices rarely go down ::grin::

DVC usually gives out a changing array of mostly neat, but inexpensive stuff to people when they join through a Disney purchase. Initially (1992 and for a few years) they gave out park passes, but once DVC caught on, they really didn't need to do much promoting.

You can negotiate with Disney, so long as your price is the same as the Disney price. Disney, from time to time, offers a program called 'magical beginnings' or something like that were they "buy" your first year's points for $5.00 or $10.00, but that's about it for buying incentives. The big incentive to buy from Disney is 1) easy financing and 2) if you want the current resort. Right now the current resort is SSR.

Thanks to Disney's right of first refusal (where they can opt to buy an ownership from a member looking to sell and not let the prospective buyer get a 'good' deal), resale prices have little negotiation room. Push the seller too low, and Disney is apt to pick up the contract. I don't think they're really looking to get points on the sold out resorts, but they have a vested interest in keeping the price of resales high so their direct 'new' sales can stay even higher.

Unlike most timeshares, DVC is selling itself. There's little incentive for Disney to give discounts or substantial buy-in perks.

Hope this helps,
Joe
