We just moved into our house in April and had to get familiar with a sump pump. A bit of advice that helped us out alot is our sump pump pipe would pump all the water right next to the house. It started to just rain like crazy and all the water was doing was staying in the ground. Our yard by the pipe was just flooded real bad. We went to Lowes and got about 20 feet of PVC piping and dug a trench where the water from the pipe was coming from and took the trench all the way out to the front of the house by our landscaping. We got the piping that was perferated as well. After we did that they sump pump doesn't kick on as much at all and the ground is completely dry. Before we did that to our walls were starting to get saturated and looked like they were leaking we had a guy come out that fixes basement leaks with injecting some kind of apoxy stuff and he told us that we had to get the water from standing around our house before he could do anything and since we put that pipe in we don't need him. My husband also caulked all the windows in the basement. When we went to Lowes to find out how tho run the pipe they had this huge board about installing a drainage system and it was really easy. Then after your done getting the pipe under ground just get some sod and lay ove all the mud. I hope this wasn't to confusing. I tried.
