About AAA rates?

If no AP rates come out for early February, we would likely purchase a AAA membership because that discount would save us about $300 from rack rates. Do you need to have the membership number to make the reservation? Of course I would buy it before we arrive, but it would be easier to make the reservation now and then get the membership later. Less pressure (I'm pregnant with terrible all day sickness and a very spirited toddler, so the less things on my plate now, the easier it will be for me to get through this phase).

TIA!

When ever I have used the AAA discount they have asked for my membership number before they would even look for rates. The last time I asked for AAA was a couple of weeks ago. You can always give it a try, all they can do is tell you that you need the number.

with that said, AAA is useful beyond disney discounts....discounts at payless shoes, casual corner, movie tickets, hotels everywhere, restaurants....I ask wherever I go, you just never know...I always make up my AAA Plus membership in discounts every year, regardless of disney.

I've always had to have the # before they'd even check for rates, but you'll definitely have to have it to book. But, I'm with katrina. I always get enough out of it every year to pay for itself, regardless of whether we go to disney or not. And don't forget about the original purpose: auto safety. This past year I've had to be towed and locked the keys in the car. If I had had to pay for all that up front, we'd be talking hundreds of dollars. Boy, did AAA pay for itself this year!

I agree with the other poster about all the AAA benefits. I make back much more than the cost of membership every year with the discounts and that is not including Disney. There are so many places that offer AAA discounts.

You could call over the phone and enroll with AAA.

I have never needed my # when I called. They just told me to be sure I have it with me when I check in.

They didn't ask me for my AAA number last time I booked, but I wonder if they might have had it on file from a previous reservation?

I just booked with the AAA rate on Wednesday, 11/19. The CM didn't ask for my AAA number before checking rates or when I actually made the ressie.

When I checked AAA rates they didn't ask for a card number. They did say that they would need to see the card at check-in. I think it depends on the CM to speak with.

BTW, the AAA rates I was quoted included sales tax. When you're comparing rates keep this in mind.

Follow-up: I received my confirmation in the mail today, it states in very clear language that you need to show your AAA card when checking in, in order to receive the AAA rate.

I have always had a AAA membership and advise anyone who owns a car to get one, but I must say that I was excited to get a discount on our ressies for our last trip then when I called(6 months before the trip)they said that they didn't have any rooms left with AAA discount. It was very disappointing that we weren't going to be able to get a break on the price.

There are a limited number of AAA discount rooms. When they are gone, they are gone. I think the only blackout dates this coming year are Christmas (maybe also Easter?).

I just got a AAA rate for one night at PC in January, and I had to give the AAA member # plus the expiration date. As my exp. date was 12/03, the CM said I'd need to renew and call back before I could get the rate. I (as nicely as possible) challenged that, since my AAA is currently valid, and will be valid in January as well, as I was about to pay the renewal, and there are limited rooms. After being asked to hold a few minutes, she agreed to put it through, but asked me to be sure to call back with the new exp. date.

So a few days later I called back to update the info, and the CM I spoke with acted like it was no big deal, and that my calling back wasn't really necessary.

Moral of the story - it all depends on which CM you talk to! But, AAA is very worth having, and as mentioned above, you can enroll online.

Have fun & good luck!

I too was asked to provide my AAA # and expiration date when I made ressies in the summer. Since my membership would expire prior to our trip she said to be sure we had the updated membership card with us when we checked in, but didn't say to call back.

:D

At that point I would politely say, "I'm sorry, I've changed my mind." Hang up, and call right back for a CM who knew what they were doing. I have never been asked for my card # or expiration date. I understand some have been asked for card numbers, but expiration date with admonishment is going overboard. There are many more CM's who are more interested in making magic than causing conflict. Chances are the next phone call would go much better.

We are spending far too much money to be treated like cheapskates.

I booked a room for Jan without the card. Then after I found out I was saving a good amount of money, I got a card.

They always have asked for my membership # before I can book a room using the AAA discount. Also, if you call and they have no AAA discounts available, don't give up. Keep checking. People cancel all the time.

Can you tell me how much you save with AAA? Especially at peak?
Thanks.
Cathy

Cathy, I got $132/night at POR during Pres week which is peak. The normal rack rate is $133-$194. Plus I got a waterview. Hope this helps.

:Pinkbounc Yes. THat helps a lot! We wanna stay at Polynesian but not at 400 bucks a night

Cathy
