? about AAA rates

We are hoping to go in Aug for 5 nights. Since we have a 2 year old, we decided that we are better off staying on the monorail. I haven't had a chance to get to AAA to see what the rates are. I know they are room only discounts. How much of a discount is it usually for a deluxe?

Also, I've been playing on the website saving trips and stuff hoping to get a PIN. If we do book at the AAA rate and then get a PIN, can I change my reservation to get the better rate?(I'm hoping for the 20/30/40 code) We will be booking soon so we can get our ADRs since I know the 180 window for Aug is almost here.

Its 10%...and its on the room portion of the trip. You also get about a $5 savings on tickets and no savings on the dining plan.

Your best prices would be the time of year you go. Personally, I think the summer month are too crowded and hot. Early December and January are inexpensive times to go...but I also think those times are to cold! Not cold for the parks, but chilly to go swimming and such!

I booked with AAA a couple of years ago. I got a pin colde and tried to apply it, but Disney would even talk to me, I had to go through my AAA agent, who I could not get a hold of for over 24 hours. She didnt think it was top priority and waited until the end of the day to call Disney. By that time, the Pin codes were not available at the Poly (all discounted room had already been booked) and my only other option was to pay rack rate at the Poly or change resorts.

this year I booked through Disney to avoid frustration with AAA...and of course, I dont have a pin! If I dont get one by a month before my trip, I will cancel with Disney and book through AAA.

Just a quick note of clarification – you can book a AAA reservation on your own without going through a AAA travel agent. You just need to call Disney Reservations directly; you cannot do it online. By booking it yourself, you will have control of the reservation and can cancel it or apply a different discount as necessary. I always start off with the AAA rate and adjust as better discounts are released…

No. A AAA package needs to be booked through a AAA travel agent. I was referring to a room only reservation.

A little off-topic, but...the last two weeks of August are supposedly less crowded than the first two weeks, due to many Florida schools and other schools nationwide starting back up by then. All of August is Value Season for the Deluxe Resorts, so you could get rack-rate Contemporary (cheapest monorail hotel) for $285. I've been contemplating a stay there for our family if the 20/30/40 comes out for the fall. BTW, we took our kids when they were little like yours and stayed at each of the Value Resorts and did fine. We ALWAYS went back to the hotel for a nap (even us grown-ups fell asleep!) via Disney bus and then returned to a park after the nap and it was easy. When they were that little we would bring a $20 umbrella stroller to schlepp them through the airports and outside of the parks and that helped for waiting in bus/monorail lines. We liked the bigger strollers in the parks so would just check-in our umbrella stroller to the rental place & get a big one each day. Just throwing out there that El Cheapo can work fine with a 2-year-old. But if you can afford a Deluxe, you go girl!!! To me the really awful transportation times are at park closing. Whether I was waiting for a monorail or a bus, I was in a huge crowd. And I'm thinking with a 2-year-old there is a good chance you may not be shutting down the parks, so you probably don't need to factor that in.

According to the 2010 AAA WDW promotional booklet the AAA rate at all Value resorts regardless of time of year is 10%. The one exception being during Holiday Season from 12-17 to 12-31 in which there are no AAA reduced rates at Value Resorts.

For anyone else who might be interested:

This EXACT same thing happened to me with AAA!!! and this is why I do my own arrangements.

I do have a question though, for those booking through the AAA do they get the room discount that is a special offer through Disney right now AND the AAA discount?
