Yep. Heard about this today, too, but didn't realize they didn't want the kids in school. That might be hard to convince people of...........education is pretty tops in my neighborhood among the hispanic families.

I heard they were emphasizing no shopping to have an economic impact. The only thing I have to say about that is that it will impact the numbers for that day, but not the week, month or quarter, as it's not as if they won't buy the things they need...........they'll just buy them before or after that day.

I asked all my friends if they are coming to teach, and they said yes. I don't think dh would participate as he won't stop working unless he's literally dying.

:furious: :sad2:

This flyers are everywhere...

Is this for the illegal immigrants or all latinos?

Exactly! Not sending the kids to school is not a good message.
Another e-mail stated that people should tell their families back in Mexico not to buy anything made in America or anything from an American company. Please like they can afford McDonals or Starbucks, even Wal Mart is expensive there.

Ironic if it doesn't affect a thing. I don't really think any business will be affected and this will only work as a political statement.

Yeah, but maybe if they didn't drink any Coca-cola that day....................down there, THAT would make an impact!

Well, this organizations are asking ALL hispanic/latinos! Legal and Illegal.

I heard a lot of people lost their jobs last week, and the organizations aren't doing anything to help them.

I am a legal hispanic american citizen and I don't think immigrants are criminals even if they are here illegal, I know illegal is a crime but demaning Amnesty (sp?) like that is just wrong.

Except for some highly concentrated areas, I don't think it will amount to much.

I just don't understand why any group thinks that b/c we don't support ILLEGAL behavior that the collective US is all against them.

ETA: This is not a "civil liberties" issue. If you are not a citizen of the US--you are limited. There are varying degrees of limitation--but since when is anyone other than a citizen ENTITLED to be on any countries soil without proper permission?

OK, in Mexico the people that can afford going out to the movies, starbucks, and even drinking soda everyday, are the people that doens't need to come to the US to work because they got money, they don't have any family working here, and many rich and middle class Mexican people don't like the illegal immigrants, just like some people don't like low class americans, b/c they make them look bad or b/c they just don't understand them, so they don't care about all this riots and protests.

Overgeneralization..........the old, if you're not with us, you're against us.......................and of course, many, many know SOMEONE here illegally and consider them similar to themselves.

My father in law came here illegally years ago...........he's legal now. It's a hard issue for my family too.

Illegal is Illegal but what about my friend, my neighbor, my cousin...........oh, HE's okay, if they just KNEW him, it's okay for him...............

Well, many illegal immigrants, even if they are here for more than 10 years, they still in the own world, many don't speak english, they stay in the latin area and they tell you I don't need to, so many don't even go to American chains restaurants, movies, and the Mexican and latin stores are own by Mexican/Hispanic People.

We don't have that here. Such a large population, there are some areas more concentrated, but definitely not isolated, and everyone I know shops quite mainstream..............as specialized as we normally get is a local-owned restaurant, but that's only occasional.........or a Fiesta grocery store, probably owned by non-Hispanics (I don't really know).

There ARE more "mom and pop" type places, of course, but most don't shop there normally.............more for specialty shops, weddings or Quincenearas.

I agree, is very hard. I know many people the came here illegal, worked hard to be legal, I also now many people that are here illegal don't care about anything and even hate and make comments about americans. Is very hard for me because my DH is American, and I am hispanic so you get it from both sides.

I am also a legal hispanic person (well half anyway)but, I think not going to work is a bad idea. People are going to be fired and then who will have thier back. Boycotting stores etc. isn't going to help either since they still need that stuff to live.

Hmmm, you have quite a different experience with this than I do. Of those illegals I know, none are disparaging towards legal Americans..........hispanic or not. I don't really get that. Why would they come here if they hate the people here? They shouldn't talk like that.........it just makes everything worse................

I remember Fiesta, I lived in Houston.

I do go to the Mexican stores and let me tell you the muchachos love the Cerveza, specially Saturdays after cashing the pay check. :bitelip:

Some do, some don't.............just like nonhispanics. Were you born in the US?
