Has anyone ever had this happen? I am going this week to get bilateral breast ultrasound and going to wait till after next week to have my lady part ultrasound for the abnormal pap smear test. I already have so much health wise going on with me that I don't think I could even begin to deal with the big C. I admit I am scared. What are your experiences with this?

Hmmm...well after some breast biopsies (I had fibroadenomas) and it was determined that I have atypical breast tissue. I don't have anything more done for me, just am sure not to miss my annual tests.

I had my very first abnormal Pap this year but since I don't have HPV and the cells were low grade (ASCUS I think the reading might be), I just repeat it next year.

I experienced an abnormal mammogram and irregular pap smear when I was 20. Neither one turned out to be problematic beyond causing lots of anxiety. I certainly hope the same will hold true for you.

Oh that is good. I too do not have HPV so hopefully they are just being extra cautious. I did research and 1 in 6 women with the atypical glandular cells have cancer. I really hope I am one of the 6.

Thanks. I do too.

I've had both. Was this your baseline mammogram? It's really common to have to get called back. After my first mammogram, I got called back for more pictures and an ultrasound, and had to repeat both every six months, until I finally got the all clear to go every year. With the digital mammograms, they pick up EVERYTHING, so the radiologist may have seen a lymph node, a cyst, or you may just have dense breast tissue. I know it's anxiety provoking, but chances are excellent that all is fine.

I've also had abnormal pap smears and had to eventually have a LEEP procedure, which gets rid of the abnormal tissue. It's also very common that your pap will just be repeated and all will be fine. If not, know that cervical cancer is SUCH a slow moving cancer, that unless you weren't getting paps on a regular basis, anything "bad" will be caught and you will be treated. Update when you can. I'll be sending good thoughts.

I've had both. I've had a couple of ultrasounds or sonograms (forget what the correct term is) on my left breast and a few abnormal paps. They were repeated. Also had one colposcopy. Everything was ok.

Ironically, I've had cancer twice, but not breast or cervical.

Thank you so much scoutie. That really put my mind at ease. I have always had regular pap smear so just caught off guard with this and then the mammogram. The first mammogram I did back in Sept was a 3D mammogram which they recommended. So hopefully it really isn't anything. Breast cancer does not run in the family but I have some gene mutations that up my risk of both breast and cervical cancer so that does concern me I guess. Will update when I get some news. Thanks guys!

I am sorry to hear about you having cancer twice. Hope all is well now?

Meh, hanging in there, thank you. :) I have lots of side effects and radiation damage from when I had head and neck cancer, but earlier this October was the anniversary of when I found the lump in my neck, 7 years ago. Considering I was stage 4, that's no small miracle.

Hope everything turns out ok for you. Sending good vibes your way.

Oh that is really a miracle! Thanks so much for the good vibes!

Oh my goodness! I've had both, but at different times. {{hugs}} to you to have both at the same time.

I've had abnormal pap smears three times and had surgery to remove part of my cervix twice. They are not doing a biopsy? Just an ultrasound? My last bad pap was a couple years ago and they still did biopsies (that one turned out OK). FWIW, I am totally OK now and even carried my DD to term even after my surgeries.

I also had breast cancer 2 years ago. The ultrasound is a piece of cake. Like scoutie said, they will often want to take a second look when there is really nothing wrong. Why did they suggest a 3-D mammogram?

Thanks robinb! I am not sure if they are doing biopsy I just assumed while they were in there lol they would biopsy? So glad that you are ok. How scary. I am past childbearing years and we never wanted or had kids so if they have to take stuff it isn't being used so might as well I guess.

They recommended the 3D when I first went in and said it was a better tool than a regular mammogram.

So went today to have bilateral ultrasound of my breasts and after that waited for them to come tell me results. Thankfully everything is fine. I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't as I was by myself. So thankful. Now I can go on vacation without worrying about this at least. When we get back will set up appt for the other ultrasound.

Hey I have been out of the loop and just saw this. Glad everything went well. Hopefully your other tests come out well too. The Big C is always something to worry about...

LOL that is understandable. Didn't you have a baby?? I have so much health wise going on with me if I have cancer I guess I will just add it to the long list. I am pretty confused about this next test cause the dr said to get it done 2-3 days after end of period but the Womans ultrasound place never heard of that so not sure what to do. I go back to my dr in couple weeks so will verify it again with them. Not thrilled about them sticking a ultrasound up my hooha lol
